My belief is that the Switzerland County commissioners would have
responsibility for facilities. The records in the basement would be largely
from the circuit court clerks office since they are primarily probate, old
marriage records, civil and criminal court records. I don't th ink there's
much from the recorders office there. The old deeds are all upstairs.
People have talked about a petition. From everything I've ever learned about
influencing elected officials, it is much better if all concerned would write
individual letters in their own words, personally addressed to the
commissioners, maybe in care of the county clerk. I don't have the names, but
they can't be hard to get.
It would also be good to write letters to the Editor of the Vevay Reveille.
By the way, the health department also keeps good records. They were starting
from the beginning of vital records and putting them on computer last time I
visited. Very cooperative. I had one death record printed out, and it matched
the transcription I had made a few years earlier without getting a copy.
