The above picture of Dr. Charles Loomis was kindly loaned the
INDEPENDENT for reproduction by the Williamstown Courier, Dr. Loomis
being a native of Grant County, and the Courier printing the picture,
with a handsome compliment, all of which Dr. Loomis is in every way
worthy of, as he is a clever, first class gentleman. He was born in
Gran County, Ky., Nov 12th, 1867, and is a som of E. K. and Fannie
(McCullum) Loomis. His mother died when he was about two years old.
Dr. Loomis was reared in Grant County, attended the public schools and
took a course in the A. & M. College at Lexington. He graduated from
the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Atlanta, Georgia, in 1894,
and a year or so afterwards located at Florence, Indiana, where by his
skill and industry he acquired a large practice. About a year ago he
sold his practice to Dr. J. C. Hill, and made a prospecting trip to
Arizona and New Mexico on account of his health, but getting well he
took a post graduate course at Chicago where he was given a diploma
from the Electro-Therapeutic College. Dr. Loomis assisted in
organizing the Florence Deposit Bank of which he was elected
president, the honor coming unsolicited as a testimony of the
confidence and esteem with which his businrss associates held him. He
resigned the position when he decided to locate at Vevay where he is
now enjoying a fine practice. Dr. Loomis was married about nine years
ago to Miss Hattie Leland, daughter of the late Judge Leland, of
Madison, Indiana, and two children Jeannette, aged 7 years, and
Emerson, 4 years, bless their home and promise to contribute to their
happiness in the years to come. Dr. Loomis and his family are most
charming people and they will prove a valuable acquisition to the
elegant little city of Vevay.
