This one figures to be 1906
Charles Markland, who was perhaps the best known man in York
Township and who possessed a wide acquaintance in the other townships
of the county, died at his home in Markland on Feb. 5, of paralysis.
The town of Markland was named for him and the post office when
established was given the same name. He was born in Hamilton County,
Ohio, on April 28th, 1826 and had he lived until that date this year
would have been eighty years of age. On Sept. 27, 1857 he was united
in marriage to Rhoda Bliss with whome he lived happily until her death
in 1898.
Five children were born to them as follows: Viola, the wife of
Wm. Kincaid, who is long since dead, Harriet, another who is dead,
Emma, who has been a most loving attendant to her father in his old
age, and Charles and Phillip, the two sons, who both live at Markland.
Mr. Markland was one of the patriarchs of the county, and at the
funeral, which was held yesterday, a vast concourse of relatives and
friends were present to pay the last mark of esteem.
