Hi all,
In the 1880 census for Pleasant, Switzerland Co., Indiana the following is
found
Thomas R. Lazenby 30 married Pentographer IN NY Penn.
Joseph Lazenby 65 married Cooper NY RI RI
Mary A. Lazenby 55 wife married keeping house VA Ireland IN
James E. Lazenby 16 single son works on farm IN NY VA
My interest in all of this is that I believe that Mary A. Lazenby is Mary
Ann Lazenby and a first cousin of my 2nd Great Grandmother Caroline Rowe
Phinney.

frank, i did a google search for "thomas lazenby" (use the
quote marks)
and
got a lot of returns. narrow it down by simply adding indiana to the
search
line, that brings 25. just doing "lazenby family" brings
over 1,000
returns, a lot to wade through!
found him in 1860 census in vevay
thomas lazenby 64 cooper born Pa
catherine lewis 37 tailoress born NY
clara age 16 born IN
i'm thinking that catherine in 1860 and the caroline in 1850 might be same
one, caroline in 1850 was 25 so born 1825, catherine in 1860 was listed
as 37 so b 1823. works for me! obviously catherine lewis is daughter
that
is living at home, perhaps husband dead?
at ancestry i found one thomas married to an isabella in the world tree
info, contact person is larry noble <lnoble30(a)comcast.com>
he lists thomas born 1795 - 1872 (no other information, sorry), wife Isa
Bella Albro b 1793, father William Lawton Albro, mother Amy Hopkins. says
married 1820 in NY. he also lists 3 children for thomas and
isabella: thomas S b 1820, caroline b 1825 and clara t. b 1844. had a
note there saying they came to indiana with Joseph and Susan Albro. he
lists children of William and Amy Albro as: Susan, Isa Bella 1793, Joseph
1803 NY, James, Samuel, Stephen and Job 1803. if they were married in NY
i
would suggest widening your search into other states beyond PA.
in 1790 census there are two Lazenby listed (all states):
samuel and margreat both in montgomery county, MD (margaret is spelled
here
margreat)
in 1800 census there are again two Lazenby listed (all states):
cephas and margaret, both in district 4, montgomery county, MD
in 1810 all states there are 6 Lazenby's:
cephas and james in montgomery co, MD with the rest being in VA (john,
joshua, robert).
1820 all states has 10:
samuel in georgia
cephus and james still in dist. 4, montgomery co, md
alexander, henry and robert in TN
robert, john and john in VA
1830 has 23
finally a thomas, he's in Algelica, Allegany, NY
and another thomas in iredell, NC
1840 has 32 all states, the thomas' are:
thomas in greenfield, lagrange, indiana
thomas j in iredell NC
thomas in redell NC
gee, there's a town in jasper co, ga named lazenby! in 1870 census
1870 has no lazenby listed in switzerland co, indiana but there are a
number in dearborn county which is nearby.
i did come across a will of a robert lazenby who lists:
daughter ann jones
daughter elizabeth farrell
son john
son robert
son elias
son thomas
son alexander
son henry
son joshua
wife martha
dated 1784, march 3 montgomery county, MD
this is from Virginia Genealogies and Biographies, 1500s-1900s
Maryland and Virginia Colonials, Vol l, Odell, page 621
one of these sons could be father to your thomas? something to keep for
future.
hopefully i've given you something to go with in further searching.
