Dear List,
Maybe someone has some ideas for me.
I am trying to find my gg gf's place of birth. I know that Ira HUTCHINSON,
youngest child of John HUTCHINSON and Lydia Ann FULLER, was born June 17,
1861. I have his place of birth as IN from several sources, including family,
his death cert, and several censuses. No one knows where in IN. His six other
siblings were born in various places, such as:
Elisha, Gallatin County, KY, 1839 (from various sources, including CW pension
record, plus family was there for 1840 census)
Alexander, Gallatin County, KY, 1847 (from Goodspeed's History of Posey
County, Indiana), but listed as Grant County, KY in Browning's Obituary
Index. John and Lydia were married in Grant Co, KY in 1838.
All children, Elisha (1839),John (abt 1842), William (between 1842-1843),
Sarah (1844), Alexander (1847), Susan (1848) and Ira (1851) are listed as
being born in IL on the Hardin County IL 1860 census. This obviously
incorrect, also had the father's place of birth as NH instead of VT.
Various other censuses list John and William as KY, Sarah as OH, and Susan as
KY.
From John, the father's War of 1812 pension record, I have that
family was in
Lawrence County, OH in January of 1851. I have taken the various
"incorrect"
census places of birth to mean that the family may have lived in these
places. I have not found the family anywhere on the 1850 census (and, boy,
have I searched). Various records say the family settled in Hardin County, IL
about 1852. They were there in 1860 and then in 1880 and beyond, but not on
1870 census.
John's War of 1812 Pension record had a paper directing papers to be sent to
Vevay, IN to an attorney there. This is the first actual place name in IN
which I have. So, here I am.
Any ideas for me? My grandmother, by the way, always told me that the family
couldn't decide where they wanted to live, but she was talking about a later
time, and IL vs IN.
I have found all these places on the maps of course. The Ohio River seems to
be the unifying element.
I am leaving for vacation later today. I would absolutely love to find any
suggestions anyone may have when I return - in about two weeks. I was going
to wait and post this when I return, but since the list is so quiet, thought
I'd throw this out now.
Thank you all for anything at all.
