For some time I have been researching this Brown family. I am
stumped on
Melinda Hafford.
I have located this family on the 1850 Census (where her name is
shown as
Matilda) and have received information from the Madison Library.
Samuel Brown died in 1885; however the exact location of his grave
is unknown.
No one knows when or where Malinda or Melinda died; except we assume
it was
before 1860 because we can not locate her on the 1860 IN census.
Samuel and Melinda married in 1825 in Switzerland County.
I located information in the book "History of the Hayford Family"
where an
Ebenezer Hafford b. May 14, 1788, m. Lucy Freeman of Rochester (NY)
1824; had
5 ch. and went to Moorefield, Vevay Township, Indiana."
I did see from the Switzerland Co. GenWeb site there indeed was an
Ebenezer
Hafford there.
Could Melinda be related to this Ebenezer?
I do not she was not a sibling of Ebenzer.
Is there anyone else out there researching this family?
Interestingly enough,
Switchboard.com shows only 2 Hafford families
in IN.
Kim Hafford in Indianapolis
Melynda J. Hafford in Evansville -
I think I will write them a letter.
Any help on Melinda's family would be greatly appreciated.
I have tried subscribed to the Switzerland Co. site but it's not
working.
