I should say that it's as important to track family groups, rather than worry
about county lines too much. For example, the following all went to the
Cumberland/Shelby/Coles, Co., Ill area. (around Lawrenceville and Neoga)
JOHN BARTLETT BUCHANAN 11 Nov. 1819-2 Nov. 1873 moved from Craig Twp. to
Neoga (then in Cumberland co., Ill) , in the 1850s. as did his brothers,
JAMES GARRETT BUCHANAN 19 March 1825-11 June 1880 , and George W. Buchanan b.
1832/33
Their first cousin, GEORGE WASHINGTON MCLAUGHLIN b. 1816/17 lived 1850 in
Shelby Twp., Jefferson Co.. In 1860 he lived in Neoga Precinct, Cumberland
Co., Ill., next to James G. Buchanan; and listed 1870 in Shelby Co., Ill.
(probably as a result of a county line move.)
Their uncle, Robert Benefiel of Jefferson Co. 29 Nov. 1787-8 Apr. 1860 was
in Allison Prairie, Ill., in 1817, back to Jefferson Co. by 1832, back to
Coles Co., Ill. by 1838. Some of his children were back in the Lawrenceville
area after 1860
