I also was impressed to find records in the computer at the health
department, until I found out that my great grandmother wasn't buried
where they said she was. I guess maybe they can point you in the right
direction and then get more facts to back it up so you can be sure it is
right.
I am also concerned about the record books in the cellar of the
Courthouse. I was down there on a rather warm day this summer and it was
warm there also, unlike upstairs where it was nice and cool. I am told
they have no room to put the books upstairs.
When visiting Vevay last month, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the
Health Department is entering death records into the computer. I was easily
able to call up a record from 1901 and get a print out of the certificate.
The transcription was accurate as I had seen the original years ago. I cannot
vouch for how far this process has gone. (And it doesn't help with the
records that were not filed in the early days.) The person working there was
great to work with and she is working her way forward in time.
I am still concerned about the conditions of court records in the basement of
the courthouse and elsewhere. I know that the first court book was completely
separate by pages when I visited and the records in the basement aren't
exactly in the best atmosphere for preserving paper.
I need information on two cousins. The first is James Wesley Lee born March 14, 1818 in Gallatin County,KY. He is the son of Gershom Lowery Lee born Feb. 11, 1781
in Morris County, New Jersey and Elizabeth Ford who were married in Gallatin County, KY on Feb. 15, 1809. They moved to Switzerland County, IN for a while and
Gershom Lowery Lee died there in 1821. I have no further information on James Wesley Lee. There are deeds
recorded in Gallatin County to a James W. Lee in 1832.
His cousin James Lee is the son of Nathan Lee and Nancy Fish who were married in Gallatin County, KY on Oct. 9, 1808. Nathan Lee also moved to Indiana. His last two sons Jackson Lee and George Lee were born in Switzerland County. Does anyone have any information on this James Lee?
Any help is appreciated.
Sincerely,
MichaelAnne Guido
I am looking for information on a John Lee born April 15, 1792 in Gallatin county, KY. He was the son of John Lee of Gallatin county, KY and the grandson of Gershom Lee, the Revolutionary War veteran that settled in Port William (now Carrollton), KY.
John Lee married a Susanna Demaree on Jan. 2, 1820 and moved to Indiana. I have only one child Mary Lee born 1822 as their offspring. Does anyone have any further information on this couple or their children? John Lee died in Jefferson County, IN in 1837.
Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
MichaelAnne Guido
