>I received some great information from Betty Lucas in the Switzerland
>County Health department in 95.
Bob's above remarks focus on an unusual source for family history and vital
statistics in Switzerland County. Betty Lucas and her associates have
compiled, at last count, at least five filing cabinet drawers full of
letters to and from researchers. As I understand it, what they do, in the
most part, is above and beyond their job descriptions. My best leads for SE
Indiana originated from correspondence Betty has compiled during the past
25 years or so. A few years ago, my wife and I accidentally discovered the
Health Department after spending the day in the nearby county court house.
We stopped by the Dairy Queen on the way out of town and, by chance, looked
out of the window and saw the Health Department sign next door. I "knew" I
wouldn't find anything of interest because vital statistics weren't kept in
those days. Wrong!!
My wife and I are currently in SE Indiana on our fourth research trip in
three years. We won't be stopping by the Health Department this time
because we're spending most of our time checking abandoned cemeteries.
Today, we discovered that the Rising Sun, Ohio County, library has a new
$16,000 microfilm reader, thanks to a donation from the riverboat gambling
interest. As a result, we're going to check rare, early 1800+ newspapers
tomorrow.

Information
Is anyone attending the work shop this weekend? The Switzerland County
Historical Society is putting it on. Milo Sutton reminded us back in July.
If you are I have this little road block, my Great Grandfather, Charles
KIENZLE. I need more information on him and his new bride Elizabeth (MUTH)
KIENZLE. I believe that they were married and set up thier first home in
Moorfield coming from Ohio. I know they came from Germany and that Charles
joined the Ohio Civil War 13th infantry for a period of 3 months in
Columbus in 1861.
I received some great information from Betty Lucas in the Switzerland
County Health department in 95.
He, Charles KIENZLE owned two plots of land,(deed) a small plot in town
(Moorfield) and a larger (farm) just out side the town border. (north)(from
the 1885 atlas) She also sent me school enumeration records for the
Moorefield school. This was double interesting as it listed the KIENZLE,
but my Grandfather Fredric Kienzle was the auditor that filled out the
papers, and had signed for if father.
My questions plus anyother thing you can find out are:
1. Marrage records?
2. What was the plot of land in the town? Looks to be the third building
south of the main cross roads on the west side of the street?
Thank you for any help in removing this block in advance.
God Bless, Bob Kienzle
