James "Jimmy" Jerome
MANSFIELD: James "Jimmy" Jerome, 70, of Mansfield, Ohio died December 13, 2011
at Hospice of North Central Ohio in Ashland, Ohio.
He was born August 23, 1941 in South Bend, Indiana.
In 1962 he was the first black student to graduate from Madison High School.
A patriotic man, Jimmy went on to serve in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1966.
He worked for 36 years at Shiloh Corporation where he was a dedicated Union Member. He
attended Crossroads Community Church.
Jimmy loved going to movie theatres for all types of movies and liked to attend concerts,
especially jazz.
He loved to travel, especially to Colorado and Washington, D.C.
A loving and generous person, Jimmy would give anything for his family and friends. One
gift he did enjoy receiving every year was the fruitcake he got for Christmas. Tuesday
nights were Jimmy's favorite because he went to "Bike Night" with his
friends. He was loyal to his friends and had many long-lasting friendships. If you were a
friend to Jimmy, you were his friend for life. Jimmy loved all people.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Yarger) Jerome, whom he married August 21, 1992;
mother-in-law, Ruth Yarger; sister-in-law, Jennifer Young (Larry Fischer); brother-in-law,
Curt (Karen) Yarger; nephew, Wade Yarger; and numerous lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Grace Jerome and other family and friends.
Friends may call Sunday, December 18, 2011 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Diamond St. Home of
Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St, Mansfield, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 19, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home,
conducted by Pastor Ron Biddle and Larry LeMaster.
Military services will follow conducted by the Richland County, Ohio Joint Veterans Burial
Squad.
