"Death of a Pioneer"
Rev. S. BEECHLER, pastor of the Trinity Lutheran church in this city, yesterday preached
the funeral sermon of an aged pioneer citizen of Liberty Township, St. Joseph County. John
McENDARFER was born in Stark county, Ohio, August 26, 1803 and died August 23, 1886, at
the age of 82 years, 11 months and 27 days. He was married to Anna Mary HARMON in 1829,
thus living in a state of matrimony 57 years. They were blessed with five children, four
sons and one daughter, two sons yet living. Mr. McEndarfer moved to St. Joseph county in
1851. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, a consistant christian and a
highly respectable citizen. His funeral was largely attended, Rev. Beechler preaching
from Psalm 71, 16-18. His aged widow survives him.
