The St Joseph Co Public Library and the Mishawaka Library both have very
good
genealogy sections with staff to help you. Non-vital information is time
consuming to
pore over, so I would contact the Libraries prior to your visit to see how
they might
assist.
My G Grandfather was a farmer on the South side of Mishawaka too. I found
informatin
on him and his family in one of the Church registers that is in the
Mishawaka Library.
Good luck. Enjoy your visit

I'm going to be in the Mishawaka area in a couple of weeks -- but
will
probably only have half a day to do my "family stuff". I've decided to
focus on three generations of my husband's people, the first of whom
came to St. Joseph Co. in 1834, and the last of whom died in 1913.
I already know the basics about these people (b/m/d, etc.) and I've read
the 1850 and 1860 census ... this time I'd like to try to gather a
little more detail about some or all of them. Most were farmers out
south of Mishawaka for most of the period, I think.
I wonder if anyone has suggestions about what resources might pay a
dividend in the little time I will have? Thanks for all suggestions ...
