Jim, the strange thing is that the ISDH here in indianapolis has never
turned me down for a birth certificate as long as i send a copy of my
driver's license...i would think that the main headquarters for birth
certificates would be more stricter than a county office...maybe someone
can get this changed...i have quite a few birth certificates that i would
like to get, and apparently they were not sent to the state health
department which they tell me is not uncommon...i,too, have spent quite a
bit of money trying to get birth certificates for my polish family...they
are hiding somewhere i just have to dig deeper...do you know anything about
the wpa records? or the singer manufacturing company records? i would
appreciate any help...thanks, stephanie

Stephanie,
I like the regulations in Michigan much better! They state that a
birth certificate can be requested by any heir (i.e., after death),
which is defined as any living descendant! I have requested and
received a birth certificate for a great uncle without a problem.
Perhaps the citizens of Indiana can lobby for this small change in
the state's regulations.
Jim
jim...i live in plainfield just 9 miles west of indianapolis and i
work
for
fedex...when i wrote them a letter (county health department) they
wrote
back the following: the state law of indiana states that you must be
able
to give certain information (such as name, date of birth, parents
names
incuding mothers maiden name, etc.) before a birth record can be issued
to
an "IMMEDIATE" family member (mother, father, brother,
sister or
grandparent), therefore we cannot look up any birth records for genealogy
purposes. i hope this will change...i hope someone out there can help
us...thanks stephanie
