Hi,
My name is Julie Reese Bookser and I'm researching my mother's family. I'm
currently working on her maiden name of BUCHHEIT. I have traced my
mother's family back to a Jacob Buchheit and Mary Oestreicher who were
married in Bethlehem, PA in 1836. Mary and Jacob came to America from
Germany ~1824, had four children (Michael Jacob, Francis Edward, Mary Ann &
John) and resided in Lancaster County, PA, at Philadelphia and later at
Phillipsburg, PA (now known as Monaca) and finally at Mishawaka, IN.
I have also done research on a Peter Buchheit/Buhite family from
Sykesville/ Troutville, PA who I believe are related to Jacob. When we
were visiting the family many years ago, they had a picture of Jacob in the
attic of the farm house (Which my father had an exact copy of the charcoal
portrait his briefcase to share with them!). In this picture Jacob was
young and newly married. I believe that there must be some relationship
between the two men for Peter's family to have had the original picture.
- Jacob Buchheit was born in Nunschweiller on October 8, 1815, arrived in
the US ~1824 and died in Mishawaka, IN on July 5, 1911.
- Mary Oestreicher was born in Darmstadt, Germany on May 10, 1807, married
Jacob Buchheit in Bethlehem, PA in 1836 and died on March 10, 1882. We are
not sure of when she came to the US.
- Peter Buchheit was born in Germany in 1785 and came to the US with hs
wife (Mary Anna Mueller or Elizabeth) and four of his five children (Johann
George, Peter, Frederick & Elizabeth). He settled in
Sykesville/Troutville, PA and died there.
If anyone is familiar with this information or these families, I would
appreciate hearing from you. I am willing to share what I have and look
forward to hearing from you.
Thank you very much,
Julie
