Hi Peggie,
My great-great grandparents were John Zeitler and Sarah Johnson. John's
parents were Stephen (b. 1820) and Anna (nee: Reiss) Zeitler. Sarah's
parents were Joshua (b. 1823) and Mary Ann (nee: ?) Johnson. The Johnson's
and Zeitler's supposedly had adjoining farms in the area. I'm still doing
research on exactly where their farms were located. I know that they were
in Clay Township where Notre Dame and St. Mary's are. Stephen and Anna are
buried in Ullery Cemetery.
Sarah's obit says that her grandparents (names unknown) were one of the
first whole families to settle in South Bend. I also have obits for
Stephen, Mary, and her son, John Q. Johnson, who was an early politician in
South Bend. I haven't found one for Joshua yet. All I know is that he died
in 1880. I just found out at the library today that two of Sarah's sisters
married into the McCombs family (Lambert and Samuel).
Later, my great-grandmother, Bertha Zeitler (daughter of John and Sarah),
married Deo Howe. They also lived in Roseland. If our families have any
connection, I'd love to work with you on sharing information.
Hope this makes sense. Thanks for writing.
Pam

Hi Pam - My Baker and Wells family are buried in the Ullery Cemetery. The
Bakers had one of those farms on Ivy Road. Several of my family lived on
that road. What obituaries do you have? Who were your family?
