Angie,
Yes you have to have patience when your researching via mail or email.
Social Security requests do take forever. I am waiting on one now. I sent
them a check around October/November and I'm still waiting. I have seen it
take as long as 6 months to get results from them. But, they do find and
send you the information. And, I've gotten replies to email queries several
months to a year after making them. Some people hang on to your messages and
when that something you requested pops up in front of them, they'll get it
to you. I have also had good results where my responses came rather quickly,
especially my requests for records from Ohio and some places in
Pennsylvania. There will always be some organizations/people who will just
ignore your message or seemingly not take it seriously and you won't get the
information even though you know it is there!

Hi Group,
Today is a downer I have been blocked at every turn. Does that ever get
better? I'm a newbie at Genealogy. Although, I have been trying to document
some of our family members for awhile. I have just within the last six
months started doing it intensively. I have found that I get a lead then
send out my message to a person and never receive any acknowledgement. This
could be a long lost relative other times a surname site of a member who
mentioned one of my surnames. I write to cemetery personnel no response!
Newspapers, Social Security all of these take forever if ever to respond. Is
this normal?
I have also been rather disappointed that others in my extended family seem
to be mildly interested but could really care less. Although they all want
a copy of what I have when I'm finished! I love doing this and see so much
value in the quest for myself and my families future generations. I know
this is probably way off of our specific subject but I can't be the only one
that sometimes feels very lonely in her great quest. How do you handle the
lousy downer times? Do I just have to have more patience?
