Pierre
I do have the obit coming and was hoping for the death cert also. I sent to
see if a will exists and waiting to hear on that.
I think you may be right on being blown off by a zealous bureaucrat. . I
re-checked the letter back from the State and who ever wrote me failed to
put their signature between the "sincerely" and "Vital Statistics
Customer
Service Division." . . . . . hmmmmm.
Maybe we have someone trying to discourage family tree researchers working
there now.
Thanks for the advice. . I probably would not have gone back over their
letter

I would inquire further. Unless this is a new law, these should be
public
records.
Have you already obtained obituaries and the autopsy if any?
They should be available from the county or the library.
You should also check for a will that might have been filed or probated.
These are gold mines and are filed with the county clerk or court clerk.
These should tell you everything on the death certificate.
I think you might have been blown off by a zealous bureaucrat. Death
certificates usually are available to banks, title companies, car dealers,
lawyers, heirs, real estate brokers etc.
They just prove that they are dead, and usually say what they died of.
I would take another swing at the health department, a little higher on
the
food chain. Public records are just that, public.

St.
Joseph would I stand a chance of getting it or is the same ruling in
effect?
