Georgia,
Thanks for your response. Bem Scott, a property owner in Elkhart, stabbed
three men: Con Crowley, Jim Smith, and George Newell in Elkhart on August 3,
1888 after a dispute with the men over trespassing and littering. One of the
men, Crowley, died as a result and Scott was indicted for murder. The trial
was later moved to South Bend and was held in late March and early April of
1889. I have numerous newspaper articles from the trial and the initial time
of the murder. None say where the courthouse was. The only clue I have been
able to find is that the jury stayed at a hotel called the Reynolds House
nearby. Recognize that? My article is over the trial and I would love to
have photos of the exterior of the courthouse where the trial took place and
also a photo of the courtroom where it all happened, to go along with the
article, if this same courthouse and courtroom still exist. Do you have any
idea??? I would very much appreciate any help before my article is due in a
week and a half. Thanks again for your response and Happy Holidays!!!!!
