John Austin.
John Austin, aged 82, died at 8:30 p.m. Thursday in his home, 536 West Grove street.
He had been ill four days. Mr. Austin was born July 25, 1856, in this city, and spent his
lifetime here with the exception of 13 years, from 1885 to 1898, when he lived in
California.
He was married Oct. 16, 1877, in Buchanan, Mich., to Miss Emma Berkheiser, who
survives. Also surviving are three sons, William E. Austin and George A. Austin, this
city, and J. Ray Austin, Dayton, O.; a daughter, Mrs. Estella Aller, this city; 15
grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Austin was a member of First Evangelical church. Friends will be received in the
residence from tonight until Sunday noon and then in the church until the funeral there at
2 p.m. Sunday. Rev. H. S. Berger, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in St. Joseph
Valley Memorial park.
