I have received an alert about a new and really bad virus. You can read
more details about it at:
http://www.wired.com/news/technology/0,1282,45476,00.html
In a nutshell:
1) The message looks like it comes from someone you know:
Subject: Document file name (without extension)
From: [user_of_infected_machine(a)isp.com]
To: [random(a)email.from.address.book]
Message:
Hi! How are you? I send you this file in order to have your
advice.
See you later! Thanks
2) It will have a file attachment from the "My Documents" folder of the
sending persons machine, often very large.
3) It has several 'time bombs' that are destructive to disk data with
triggers for causing trouble in the future.
4) "When a computer is infected with SirCam, the worm copies itself to
"c:recycledSirC32.exe" and as "SCam32.exe" in the Windows system
directory." These are indicators that you have the worm. Be careful.
Because, apparently, it is also designed to cause problems if these files
are simply deleted.
Check with your virus protection vendor for a 'worm removal tool'. It's
usually free.

First, I want to say I am sorry for sending out a email in one group
message,
but I wasnt going to type this 30 times.
Dear list manager,
Please remove me from your list for now. It seems that there is a
nasty
person going through the mailing list and sending out some kind of
virus. I
have been getting all kinds of email from strangers telling me to
"take a
look at this file and give me your advice". It requires you to
download it.
I have not been doing so. I have been deleting the email instead of
downloading. Some how, this person(s) has been able to get a hold
of my
email list form my computer and has been sending the same emails to
my family
and friends. Some of them with private emails (from work) that are
not
searchable on the net. Here is a copy of a note I sent to AOL in
this
problem (it also shows some of the emails I was sent and so were my
family
and friends):
Hello, I don't know what to do. I am getting email like this from a
number
of different email address'. To make things worse, this person has
,
somehow, been able to send the same mail to email address' on my
buddy list.
How is that possible? Some of the email address' I have on my buddy
list are
through private organizations (work) and not available to the
internet
public. But these person's are getting them. How do I fix this
problem?
Here are a few for you to look at that are being sent to me:
