One possible explanation might include:
As happened in one family that I heard about, the couple had been married,
then divorced, then remarried in another county. Nothing was kept in
'family records' with re to the divorce and it was not talked about. Not
even their children knew because of their young age at the time the divorce
happened. Just offering as a possible solution. That's one reason
genealogy is so appealing - the sleuthing.

Subject: [INSTJOSE] marriage record discrepancy/RIEDE
Hi!
A very nice volunteer kindly looked up a marriage record I had asked for
from St. Joseph's County.
However, there is a huge discrepancy. According to the marriage record
at
the county level, the marriage took place Jan 2, 1918 in St.
Joseph's
County.
According to the bride's death notice, her and her husband were
married
in
Battle Creek, MI in 1905. This is where they also lived most of thier
lives.
Son Lee was born in Toledo, OH in 1906.
Question: if I send for the marriage record from St. Joseph's County,
will
it state if it was a delayed registration? Any other explanations for
the
huge difference in years?
The groom's surname was RIEDE....
Thanks,
Sally in Michigan
