Please think about trying the St. Joseph County Genealogical Society. A
volunteer there has been doing a wonderful job doing light research for me.
And am I Grateful! If the worst happens and they don't have specific
information about your family, they may have an idea. Also try the local
(to your ancestor) Library to see what they have to say. I would be both of
these can be reached via internet. (No, I don't have their email address,
but I usually do find a way to access them by regular search engine and
focusing the search with Asterisks: For example *St. Joseph County
Genealogical Society* -- then search engine will bring up related sites for
you to search.
Also try going to
www.usgenweb.com and then type in your desired surname.
Then go to section for National or State archive searches. It includes most
census periods and vital stats records. I use the National archives search
because I have found, via this method, some of my ancestors in the most
unusual places. Never would have dreamed they'd be "there" at that time
period. Good hunting. Sandy Childs in Calif.
