Frank J. Anderson, who is engaged in business as a realtorat 663 Farmers Trust
Building, South Bend, is a native son of St. Joseph County, where he was born September 2,
1876. His paents are Charles and Mary (Bennett) Anderson, the former of whom was born at
Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in 1845, and the latter in Ohio. When still a young man Charles
Anderson went to Berrien County, Michigan, and from there came to St. Joseph County, where
he has since continued to reside. Early uniting with the Zion Evangelical church, he has
always continued active in church work. There were three children born to him and his
wife: Frank J., Edward and Charles, but Frank J. is the only survivor. During the Civil
War Charles Anderson served in the Union Army as a brave and loyal soldier for three years
and eight months, and was honorably discharged. For many years he has been a valued
member of the Grand Army of the Republic, and enjoys meeting his old comrades at the
different reunio!
ns. Growing up on a farm Frank J. Anerson attended the local schools until he was
seventeen years old, and had the further advantage of a course at the Keller Business
College. Mr. Anderson then entered the employ of the Woolworth chain stores, and was in
the store in Laporte, Indiana for three years, and then was assistant manager of the store
at South Bend for several years. In 1916 he severed his connection with this enterprises
and embarked in real-estate business, opening his present offices. From the start he has
been eminently successful, finding in this line of endeavor his life work. Mr. Anderson
owns some very valuable real estate and other property at South Bend, and is a man of
ample means, but all of his wealth has been earned through his own efforts. He belongs to
Tent No. I, K. O. T. M., and the South Bend Real Estate Board, the South Bend Chamber of
Commerce. Fully occupied with his business responsibilities he has never had any
political aspirations.!
June 29, 1899 Mr. Anderson was married to Miss Elizabeth Hyden of So
uth Bend, and they have one daughter, Irma, born February 28, 1907. She is now a student
of the South Bend High School, and is giving special attention to music for which she
possesses a decided talent.
