Hi, Mimi.
Have you ever checked to see if your ancestors were Hessians?
A lot of Germans came over to fight with the British during the
Revolutionary war. This would be in the 1770's or 1780's.
If you haven't followed this lead, let me know.I'll send you two links, one
for a mailing list and the other for archives that you can search for
mention of the surname.
You also have another problem which you might need to work through. You have
one spelling, but there may be several other spellings and permutations
because very many of the people who came from Europe (and elsewhere) were
totally illiterate. The names were always phonetic, and subject to how they
were understood through a thick accent.
Happy hunting!

Subject: [INSTJOSE] Lindecker/Germany to USA>Indiana
Hello Listers,
I am really stuck with my Joseph C. Lindecker, born 1828 in Germany. He
came to the US in about 1856, and ended up in St. Josephs in 1860. I can
follow him to Ohio, but I can't find when he arrived, the ship, or any
other
listing for him before he had his son in 1860.
I have been thru the volumes of Germans to America. I have been looking
thru all the CD's. I just cannot find a record for him. All I know is
that
he worked for the Milburn Wagon Works and followed them to Toledo in
1874.
Can anyone help me? The LDS is 2 hrs. from here, and I didn't find much
there...Here is what I have..............
Joseph C. Lindecker b 1828
married
Josephine Otolf b 1827
Carl Lindecker b 1855, Germany
Jos. Conrad Lindecker b Aug 1860, Mishawaka (found in St Jos. Parish
records)
Annie Mary Lindecker b 1863, Mishawaka
ANY help is appreciated!
Thanks,
Mimi
