Hello Michelle,
Here are a couple of sites for you to get information from:
http://www.sjcpl.lib.in.us/Databases/Necrology.html
This is a necrology database at the library. You can request a copy of the
obituary by emailing them with the email link at the bottom of the page.
They charge a very small copying fee. By doing a quick look, I found your
grandpa Mike's obit listed.
There are also some databases at this site:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~insbags/indexto.htm
This is the South Bend Area Genealogical Society and their site has some
cemetery, grave, census, and coroner indexes online. It also has Marriage
Records of Saint Joseph County, IN. 1927-1954. There are quite a few Radics
in there.
You can also obtain copies of old marriage licenses, coroner reports,
probate records, etc. from:
St. Joseph County Archives
1140 S. Lafayette
South Bend, IN 46601
(219) 235-9091
They also charge a small copying fee of $1 per request and .05 per page.
You can check for naturalization papers at two places:
Indiana State Archives arc(a)icpr.state.in.us
and
Great Lakes Regional Archives in Chicago archives(a)chicago.nara.gov
I would check both places. I had an incidence where the State Archives
didn't find one of my relative's nauturalization papers. I then wrote to
the Regional Archives. They located an index card with the information on
where the record was located. It was located at the State Archives. When I
contacted the State again with the date and page number from GL Archives,
they were able to locate it.
Hope some of this helps,
Pam

Subject: [INSTJOSE] Information on Radics
Hello List,
I'm new to this list...My name is Michele...I'm originally from St.
Joseph County and since my mom's death last year...I'm doing several
family
trees that cover the families that I have ties to. I'm looking
for
information about my dad's side of the family...he still resides in St.
Joe
county...but I need to confirm and get records to confirm the
information
that he is giving me. He is in his mid-eighties he is still pretty spry
and
seems to know what he is talking about...but I have to be sure and
have
proof...isn't that a part of what Genealogy is all about? Anyway...here is
what I have:
Both of my grandparents were born in Hungary. They came to the U.S. about
1912 via Ellis Island, New York. By 1917 for sure...they were settled in
St.
Joe county.
Grandpa: Mike Radics b. January 24, 1884 d. Abt. 1924
Grandma: Kathryn Noveogravitz?/Noveogravtiz? b. Abt. 1889 d. Abt. 1957
I had an Aunt...Irene Radics b. December 5, 1910 in Hungary d. January
1987
in Beaufort, S.C., but her funeral was in St. Joe County. She lived
in
Granger for years before she moved to S.C.
My Uncle...Joseph Radics b. March 15, 1913 Ind.? d. September 1983 in
Mishawaka, In.
My Aunt...Ann Radics b.September 24, 1914 Ind. ? still living
My dad...Michael David Radics b. May 28, 1917 According to "Birth Record
St.
Joseph County 1882-1920 Inclusive Volume II Letters I-R Inclusive 1
of 2,
2
of 2" pg. 173 that I got off of the web...says:
Radich Michael Michael Katie Novo Gadic M W May 28, 1917 CH-37 301
That is my dad's birthdate and pretty close to his parents names...so they
were in St. Joe County at that time for sure. My dad says that a Catholic
Priest filled out the paperwork at his birth.
My Uncle...Frank Radics b. October 31, 1923 Still Living
I have 3 Aunts...Helen Radics...living, Kate Radics...living, and Theresa
Radics...deceased. I don't have there birth dates but from the information
that I have...their birth dates should fall somewhere between 1918-1922.
My dad was in the Navy during WWII. Am going to try and get more
information
on that the next time that I speak to him.
If anyone out there "knows" anything or can help guide me or get me info I
will appreciate it greatly...I'm trying to find something that can give me
a
town in Hungary that my grandparents may have come from. I'm on
several
other e-lists for this as well. It's hard to try to do things long
distance
and on limited cash flow. Any help/guidance would be much
appreciated.
Thank you in advance,
Michele Sherk (Radics)
P.S. I do know about the "differences" in spellings of names from one
country to another and about how even in the states many places...the
names
were spelled by how they sounded (kind of like Phonics).
