Hi Connie,
Thanks for your help. I have not heard of the Smith church before. Perhaps
someone can shed light on it as well. As mentioned in another response, the
Pleasant Valley Cemetery is about a mile away from the Pleasant Valley
Church. The cemetery today is on the north border of the Chapel Hill
Memorial in a wooded, abandoned area. Access to the cemetery is possible
from Chapel Hill and from Birch Rd on the West side (if you can find the
entrance). South Bend Area Genealogical Society sells books containing a
thorough index to most/all of the cemeteries in the county. Perhaps someone
here can do a lookup for you to see if William Leininger can be found.
By the way, I knew some of the Leiningers from Pleasant Valley. I will
never forget my school bus driver Bill Leininger who owned a farm nearby.
He was a big man who drove the bus that picked up kids in what is now
Pleasant Valley. I am betting he is related.
My older brothers attended Jimtown High during the late 50s and I grew up in
the heart of Pleasant Valley. Thanks for your help.
Richard Smith
Just acquired my great-greatgrandmother's (Anna Leininger, nee
Stroll)
obituary. It states she moved to Pleasant Valley in 1858. Her husband's
name
was William Leininger and he died 15 years before she did--no obit on
him.
She died in 1903 and her funeral was at Smith's church with interment at
the
adjoining cemetery.
Do you, perhaps, have any idea where that might be. I just spent 2 weeks
in
Indiana doing genealogy research, but did not have the obit at the
time.
I grew up in Elkhart Cty and went to Jimtown High School so I am somewhat
familiar with the area. Any info you might have would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks,
Connie Pellman
