Message Board Post:
On the 1880 census in South Bend there is a family:
Calvin Beals b. abt. 1845 in NY
Dealia Beals b. abt. 1854 in NY
Dolly Beals b. abt. 1874 in IN (dead due to drowning)
Owen Beals b. abt. 1876 in IN (dead due to drowning)
I believe Calvin probably moved back to NY as there is a Calvin Beals listed in Lewis County after 1880, that seems to match this man. But what happened to his wife? Where did Dealia go? Did she die there in Indiana? I think this Dealia's given name may have been Fidelia Sherman, from Oneida County, NY. Anyone that could search for records (death, newspaper, court, second marriage, etc.) for Dealia (Delia, Fidelia) Beals in Indiana would be a saint in my view! Thank you.

I've "rescued" two old photographs belonging to the POOR Family of Indiana.
The first is a photograph of A. POOR which was taken at the James Bonney
Studio in South Bend, IN. The photograph appears to have been taken in the
1860's or 1870's with the man in the photograph likely in his teens or 20's
at the time it was taken. The second photograph is identified as Mrs. A.
POOR and Mary A. POOR and was taken at the L. H. Mandeville Studio in
Valparaiso, IN. This second photograph was likely taken in the 1860's
(portion of civil war tax stamp remains on the back) with Mary appearing to
be in her teens or 20's at the time it was taken.
On the back of the second photograph someone has also written "she is no
longer poor, but is none worse off than when she was poor". I believe this
is an attempt at a funny play on words with the surname POOR. I am hoping
to locate someone from this POOR Family so that these wonderful old
photographs can be returned to the care of the family. If you are a member
of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me.
Thanks,
Shelley

My name is Dave Dwiggins formerly of Indiana residing in the Philippines. Since 2004 my wife and I have been sending free photos to families of Indiana Servicemen killed in this region during World War II. As you well know Frank Alby was one of those KIA.
We have many photos of the memorial including one of the wall panel at the Tablets of the Missing where Frank's name is honored. We have sent these photos to approxi8mately 300 Indiana families of these men and wish to do the same for you. There's no catch. I am a veteran of the Vietnam War and found it shocking that these remains were never returned to their families. We all feared dying on foreign soil and it was unthinkable that the remains would not return to their families. I cannot return the remains but I can send a vew of their graves and or names as they appear on the Tablets as Frank's does.
We send the wall panel photo and 20 additional photos from various locations at the memorial plus a 6-min video. We do not wish to fill up Ancestry.com's bulletin boards with photos so we request a working email address to send these to no strings attached. Hope we can accommodate your family too. My grandmother was a member of the Clio Club a social club in South Bend IN in the 1920-30's. I have many photos of trips, etc that they were on, with many people that I have no idea who they are. Thanks for the info, this has been a mind boggling search, we know what happened to our Harriet, she married in the family and moved to California but where she came in on the South Bend Indiana scene and why and what happened to her mother remains a mystery, I have looked at immigration records and census records and really nothing concrete shows up so far. We did get the marriage records for Harriet and found the mothers maiden name, we think, so I am looking into that for a connection within the Stachowiak family. I did look at Martin and Mary, Harriets father whose name was Marion was deceased and might have been the brother of Martin possibly. Do you have anything on John and Anna having other children?

Martin and Mary (Bladecki) Kwiatkowski lived at 716 Monroe with children Hattie and Mary. Martin is the son of John and Anna (Foote) Kwiatkowski. Martin was born in New York. The home at 716 Monroe was occupied by the Kwiatkowski's before 1900. These are different Kwiatkowski's. Of course, they may be related somehow.

We are the former Rootsweb Mailing Lists of INSTJOSE, INELKHAR, INFULTON, INKOSCIU, INLAGRAN, INLAPORT, INMARSHA, INNOBLE, INPORTER, MIBERRIE, MICASS, and MIVANBUR. A discussion and research group covering the history and genealogy of the counties that make up the Michiana area. Counties in Indiana; St. Joseph, LaPorte, Elkhart, and Starke. In Michigan; Cass and Berrien. Also counties of Greater Michiana. In Indiana; Fulton, Marshall, Porter, LaGrange, Noble, Kosciusko . In Michigan; Van Buren. Anyone interested in Michiana is welcome to join!
