I am looking for information on Jacob D Smith who was in St. Joseph County from
about 1838 to 1849. I have found a reference that I think is him in the book
"South Bend Crossroads of Commerce". Are there archives of the newspapers from
that time that are available? The papers I have found, and would like to look
at, are the "South Bend Free Press" established 1836 renamed to "St. Joseph
Valley Register" 1845. Are there any other newspapers available for this time?

I looked through my files on the family of John and Christena (Brumbaugh) Smith of Miami Co, IN. I do know that two of their daughters married sons of Cyrus and Anna (Stoll) Leininger of Elkhart County, IN. These sons Emmanuel and Israel married sisters Susannah and Mary Smith. The youngest daughter of the Smith family "Louisa" was born in about 1863. Is there any chance that she could have been the Louisa that married Jeremiah Leininger?

Thank you for your interest. Since my last post I did find the Susannah Smith that married Emmanuel Leininger. She was born in 1854 in Miami County, IN. Her father John Smith born 1819 in France and her mother was Christena Brumbaugh b. 1823 Lake Twp, Stark Co., OH dau. of John Miller Brumbaugh son of Conrad Brumbaugh b. 1763 in MD. These are from the families of Brumbaug's listed in "Genealogy of Brumbaugh Families" by Gauis Marcus Brumbaugh printed 1913 page 443. The Leiningers and the Brumbaughs lived near each other in Stark Co., OH and apparently were acquainted. Small world.

Upon more research I have found that Louisa B Smith married Jeremiah Lininger on 11-26-1882 in Michigan marriage records. It states that Jeremiah is from St. Joseph Co, Indiana and she from Muncie, Indiana. I think that Jeremiah is the son of Cyrus. They list their ages as Jeremiah being 18 and Louisa Smith as being 19. I am not sure of Jeremiah's true age. I found this lis

When Edna Hunt Johnson died in 1958, survivors in her obit include sons John V. of South Bend and Leroy K. in Detroit.
When John V. Hunt died in 1992, his obit does not list a surviving brother.
Therefore, Leroy K. must have died between 1958 and 1992.

I am researching the family of John D HUNT and Edna P McWilliams HUNT . I know either John died or he and Edna divorced. She then went on to become the wife of Clarence JOHNSON. I found the family of HUNTS on the 1920 census for ST. Joseph county , with children John V and Leroy K . listed. I am wondering what happened to the son LeRoy , I can't seem to find much on him. I know Clarence and Edna are buried at Mt. Pleasant cemetery in South Bend. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
