Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I have a couple of questions.
1. Is the South Bend Tribune archived/digitized or microfilmed? I am looking for something from 1894. If is, where might it be held?
2. Is it legal to get or attempt to get copies of divorce decrees from the 1890s as well (for example, from the St. Joseph County courthouse).
Thanks for your help.
Mike in IL
Would some kind soul be able to tell me where in this county the Ward Cemetery might be located. Or, will I have to go to the library to see if I can find it there? Thanks so much for all your kind assistance. Marty Smith Wells, New Carlisle, Indiana

Thank you for posting society news from the South Bend Tribune from the era
of the early 20th century.
My grandfather, Robert Robertson, was a partner with Fred Ellsworth, in the
largest department store in South Bend at that time, "Ellsworth's". There
were 75 employees.
He was very socially prominent, belonged to many civic organizations, and
the store used to do an annual parade on Michigan Ave (I have photos). My
grandmother was a founder of the Children's Aid Society, which handled the
adoptions of orphans. I would love to see any society news about my grandparents or
about the Ellsworth store.
By the way, are there archives of the South Bend News-Times? This paper
folded many years ago, but my mother worked on it as a high-school "cub reporter"
in the late 1930s.
Thanks in advance!

Hi Lisa: Just would like too ask you if you could check in the South Bend Tribune for my Harry Abbott. He probably died abt. (Aug. or Sept.) 1970. His date of birth is April 22, 1891. He was a "barber" and owned his shop in South Bend, In. He would have been about 79 or 80 yrs. old when he died. Hope this might help. Thanks again. Jim Abbott

A quick search from Wikipedia says this:
The Thousand Islands is the name of a archipelago of islands that straddle the U.S.-Canada border in the Saint Lawrence River as it emerges from the northeast corner of Lake Ontario. They stretch for about 50 miles (80 km) downstream from Kingston, Ontario. The Canadian islands are in the province of Ontario. The U.S. islands are in the state of New York. The islands, which number 1,793 in all, range in size from over 40 square miles (100 km²) to smaller islands occupied by a single residence, to even smaller uninhabited outcroppings of rocks that are home to migratory waterfowl. The number of islands was determined using the criteria that any island must be above water level for 365 (366) days per year, bigger than one square foot (roughly 900 cm²), and support at least one living tree. The area is very popular among vacationers, campers, and boaters, and is often referred to as the "fresh water boating capital of the world".
