There is an office in the little house at the cemetery, but the sexton is not always there. He also takes care of Bowman Cemetery on Miami Street. I would call first to locate the grave and then stop by the house to get a plot map. Phone number is 574-235-9458 or if no answer, call 235-9414. The sexton will return your call.
Office is located off of Colfax on Elm...very short street. I think there might be one house before the main gate to the cemetery.

Is there an office, or list/map, with locations of graves at City Cemetery? I understand it's a huge cemetery, and don't want to walk the whole thing, looking for Orlando Ryan and his wife Sarah. If not, how can I find where they're buried?
Thanks!
Jan

I'm not related but I took a look around for you.
I checked the St. Joseph county library's obituary index but did not find Alfred listed.
Even though on the 1920 census Edith is listed as widowed, I don't think she was. I think she and Alfred may have divorced.
In 1920 in Indianapolis, there's an Alfred C. Mecklenburg, age 35, born Michigan, an engineer in the automobile industry. He's with his wife Norma, age 33, born Indiana. (This is how ancestry.com indexed them: Alfred C McCklenbury and Nelma A McCklenbury.)
There's a marriage record:
Name: Alfred C. Mecklenburg
Spouse Name: Norma G. New
Marriage Date: 16 Sep 1919
Marriage County: Hancock
Source Title 1: Hancock County Indiana
In 1930 they are still in Indianapolis with 3 children:
Alfred C Mecklenburg 43
Norma G Mecklenburg 41
Alfred C Mecklenburg 9
John W Mecklenburg 8
Gretchen Mecklenburg 7
On his WW2 draft registration card, Alfred is Alfred Christian Mecklenburg, living in Hartford City, Blackford county, Indiana, born October 14, 1883 in Centerville, Michigan, and lists Norma Mecklenburg of the same address as person who will always know where he is. Alfred is 6 foot 2 inches tall. (Your Alfred is listed as tall on his WW1 draft registration card and the birth date is exactly the same.)
I think you may have to turn your search to Blackford county to find his death. However, he may have lived to a ripe old age and could have moved elsewhere although I could not find a death on the SSDI for Alfred or Norma.
This second Alfred may not be yours, but it may be an avenue worth pursuing.

Alfred Chrisotpher Mecklenberg born 14 Oct. 1883 MI and married Edith H. Hammond on 1904 St. Joseph County, IN. They lived in South Bend. Had a daughter Mary Reece and she married Victor Lytle Strange and later moved to Tulsa, OK. I don't have a death date for Alfred of which I would like to find, and his wife Edith died 8 Jun 1848 Tulsa, OK. Hoping to connect with someone in this family line.
