A couple of years ago, I sent my sister who lives in Indy and worked only a few blocks away from the place to get several naturalization papers. I had all the document numbers with names that she was to request. She left them with the information and they told her two weeks. Well, she went back in two weeks and they told her that none of the people had papers. She just told them, "Oh, yes they do." The man in the office said, "Who told you they did?" She told him that her sister had all the information and the certificates and if he wanted to speak with her, she would call me immediately. Also, she would wait this time for the information. Well, it took them ten minutes to get all the copies completed. She watched as they used their "little white gloves" and made the copies. It provided me with the information of their homeland, ships they traveled, and date of arrival. So, maybe you need to get someone to visit them in person. I think that not responding to a reques!
t is definitely rude.

About two years ago I went through the same thing. I got about the same type of message from the archives you got. They did say that all St. Joseph County records were in their hands.
Two years later and I still have not been able to get the record I requested.

I emailed the State Archives and this was the reply I received about the naturalization records:
Hello,
The initial indexing for Saint Joseph County, has been completed based upon the county indexes that were sent with the records. A volunteer is currently comparing the original books to the database and in many cases finding records that were never indexed. As soon as she is done with that, the index will be added to our online database. I would think that will be at least a year. After the proofing is done the records will be microfilmed. In the meantime, you are welcome to send the name you are looking for, to us at this address and we will check the original records. It might take a few weeks as we have a very small staff, but if the record is in the database already, it should not take as long.
Thank you,
Vicki Casteel

I am not sure what this means in terms of where the actual records are located or where the indexes can be obtained. Hope this helps.

When you say 'State Archives' does that mean it's available at the State Library in Indianapolis?

St Joseph Co naturalization records are in the hands of the state archives. There is an index available. The local county archives has a copy of that index. If you are searching a particular name, we can probably help you find that person in the records.
Records before 1860 are available in the county.

Does anyone know about the status of putting the St. Joseph county naturalization records online? Many other counties are available, but not St. Joseph county. Thanks for any info.

Hi,
In the city directory for Mishawaka I find an address of 4106 Elkhart
Av. Now I can't find any such address on Google. Has the street been
renamed?
Thanks, Donna
Anna,
I do not show him on the web site for the cemetery listings that I presently
have, these are all from people who have submitted names to the
cemeteries....I am forwarding your message to the St. Joe mailing lists and maybe someone
there will be able to help you...

Hello
I have been told that my grandfather - Harold Edward Roush - is buried
in this cemetery - he died January 8, 1992. Can you confirm this information?
Thank you
