Thanks to someone who contacted me off list, I now know that John Kajzer's father's name was Martin Kajzer (mother's name still unknown). The birth date for John Kajzer (1880) could mean that Martin Kajzer is another son of John Kajzer and Kryztyna Szmyt Kajzer. I know that Kryztyna had 10 children, 8 of whom were living in 1900. I've confirmed only 7 of her kids so far. Does any of this ring a bell with anyone?

GERMAN TOWNSHIP
Some time prior to 1836 a grist-mill was built on the
St. Joseph river, on section 27, by Shank & Downs, two
millwrights; the mill was owned and controlled by
William McCartney, who ran it for a while, doing a
good business; but the mill did not long stand, on
account of dificulty in securing water-power.
In the winter of 1832, quite a remarkable little
episode occurred, which for a time greatly frightened
the few scattering inhabitants of German township:
Jacob M. Whitmer, now a resident on section 7, then
only a little child three and one half years old, went
out one morning in pursuit of his father and
accidently became lost. Search for him was immediately
instituted by his parents and the neighbors; but all
seemed in vain, and for three long days and two nights
the lost child still wandered, enduring the bleak
winds of winter. His sorrowful parents and 200 anxious
friends who were in search of him, had given him up as
lost forever and supposed him to have been captured by
the Indians. But about this time, when despondency and
gloom had settled upon many anxious hearts of that
community, Judge McCartney, now deceased, continued
the search on horseback, when, lo!, by him the child
was found and returned to its anxious, awaiting
parents; and where before had been the shadow of gloom
and sorrow, was now the sunshine of gladness.

Mentions McCartney Creek.
In 1850 census, William McCartney, who lived alone, reported he was born in Pennsylvania. James McCartney lived nearby with his family.
I looked for your family and found a William McCartney, Sr. and Margery, his wife, of St Joseph Co. IN. I copied page 34a which says page 159 has a deed dated Oct. 25, 1834 to Elisha Egbert land. -- St. Joseph researcher
As 1832 progressed so did [Elisha] Egbert's postponed legal career. The first session of the St. Joseph County Circuit Court was held in the largest available public space, the tavern of Calvin Lilly. Egbert entered the opening motion before the court, peti*tioning that he and several fellow lawyers be admitted to the bar. By 1834, he was elected probate judge of the county. Things were looking so bright that at the age of 25 he proposed marriage to Eliza McCartney daughter of a miller and early settler.

REPORT ON STATE OF MCCARTNEY CEMETERY IN SEP 2006 BY SOUTH BEND RESEARCHER
At one time, these streets were in the better part of South Bend, but now with people dying off and new owners renting them out to anyone, it isn't the best anymore. I found the house at 1237 Kinyon St. and right next door was an apartment building. I went to the back of this house. It was not a good looking place and the back yard was even worse, lots of weeds and like trees have been cut down, and not cleaned up.
A man that lives in the house behind Kinyon St. was in his yard. I told him what I was looking for and he told me to come to his yard because a few of the stones were on his side. There is a tall stone, I couldnt read it but could make out the month of July.
He told me he lived in his house for 20 years, and at one time he could read this person's death date of July 30, 185? I told him it was 1852, but he could also read aged 71 years, 3 months and 18 days.
He said the stones were on the other side of fence before he put the fence up. He decided he would move them to his side, since he wasn't sure who would be living in that house on Kinyon. There was another stone, that was tall and you couldnt read anything on it at all.
There was also a broken stone, that was broken in maybe 3 pieces, looked like it was a white stone, with pillars engraved on the top of this stone, but it looked like the name Jane on it.
This man also said there used to be a cemetery off to the side of his property, but before he moved there, someone broke all the stones off and buried them all in a hole there.
He also said McCartney owned a lot of property in both directions of his home.
He said a woman came to his house years ago asking about these stones and the McCartney Cemerety, and she told him that William had an Indian name and had changed it to McCartney, because of people making fun of his Indian name. I'm really not sure, but you might want to check that out.

Only fragments of William McCartney's tombstone and that of one child who died at age 18 remain. Mr. McCartney's will mentions 5 other family members of his family who preceded him in death and were buried on the family plot:
William McCartney, died July 30, 1852, aged 71 years. 3 mos. 18 days

Several Mclauglin-Shaw descendants are searching for the parents of Lucinda (Shaw) (McLaughlin) Coon.
We are also looking for information on Robert W McLaughlin.
She was born in Ohio August 3, 1818. She married Robert W. McLaughlin in St. Joseph Co. on July 1, 1835. The family lived in Penn Township, St. Joseph Co. Indiana per the 1850 census. In 1851, Robert W. McLaughlin filed an affidavit of service in the War of 1812 while livining in Mishawaka, Indiana (St. Joseph Co.) for a land bounty. Robert died in 1853/54 (place unknown). Lucinda (Shaw) McLaughlin moved with her children to Lee County, Iowa before October 22, 1853. Her children with Robert W. McLaughlin were Allen, Andrew J., Charles F., Phidelia, Benton, Garrison (or Harrison), William W. and Louisa J.
Lucinda (Shaw) McLaughlin married David I. Coon in late 1854 per the Lewis Coon Manuscript written circa 1890 and the 1856 Lee County, Iowa Special Census.
David Coon and Lucinda (Shaw) (McLaughlin) Coon moved to Mercer County Missouri about 1857.
David died about 1880 in Holt Co. Missouri. Lucinda died August 27, 1897 and is buried in the Spickard Masonic Cemetery in Grundy County Missouri.
In the 1880 census, Lucinda lists her parents' birthplace as Father: VA and Mother:KY. If this is true, then her parents are NOT Benjamin and Sally Shaw which was speculation.
Bottom line Lucinda (Shaw) (McLaughlin) Coon was born in 1818 in Ohio. Married in 1835 in Indiana. Remarried in Iowa by 1854 and moved to Missouri in 1857 and died in Missouri in 1897. I am searching for her parents; the father from VA and mother from KY.
We would greatly appreciate any info or assistance in helping to determine Lucinda's parents. We have looked under almost every rock (National & other archives) we can think of and still come up empty! If you have any ideas, or have access to documents, records, archives, etc. on Shaws or McLaughlins in the areas mentioned above (and even on Benj Shaw) we would greatly appreciate it!
THANKS!
