Hi, Rick, I have a double Kring family connection. My GreatGrandfather
Grafton Boyer married Malinda Kring, and Mary Boyer, married Eli Martin
Kring. A bother and a sister, to a sister and a brother. I just love
this double cousin relationship. Thanks for writing! Marty

Hello, yes, we could get a remembrance book going. My Mother and Father
went to the Mount Pleasant School, that sat on what was a piece of my
GreatGrandparents farm. I ran up and down the rows of apple trees as a
kid, and watched as my Grandmother was condemned and the family farm
gone, due to Airport expansion. I watched as the by-pass was being
built, after my parents were condemned and we moved over by New
Carlisle. Look at it now. If I didn't see it for myself, I would not
have know what it looked like then. My Mother has a nice picture of the
big farm house that was sitting there until 1958. The barn even had the
big MailPouch Tobacco sign, and there were Berma Shave Signs years ago,
too!! Anyone else out there with remembrances of long ago South Bend?
Let us hear from you! Thanks, Marty Smith Wells, Pierceton, Indiana
Anyone on the list have access to pictures of the South Shore Station in
South Bend or know where some might be found? My mother worked there for a period
of time during the late 1940s to early 1950s (we were living in New Carlisle
at the time). Thank you.
A great resource for out-of-print books is http://www.abebooks.com. They've
got listings from over 10,000 independent booksellers, and I almost always
find what I'm looking for there. I've lost track of the title you guys are
looking for, but a search on "South Bend" in the Title field yielded several
interesting titles. Other similar sites are http://www.tomfolio.comhttp://www.bookfinder.com and http://www.alibris.com

Barbara,
I just typed in the web browser; South Bend Blue Sox and got quite a few
hits. There was lots of information including names of some of the women on the
team.

I for one, hope someone knows where a person could get copies of
photo's. I am a 1968 New Carlisle Graduate transplanted further south. I
also, would like to know where one might be able to purchase pictures of
the Studebaker Plant. My Dad was a mechanic in the Studebaker Dealership
across the street. Sherman-Shouse-Freeman, and then later on
Freeman-Spicer. I used to watch the chassis cross Main Street when I was
little. I rode my tricycle, and pedal fire engine all over that
building. I took my driving test in a 1960 Studebaker Lark. I remember a
lot of the guys that Dad worked with. They all called him "Smitty". If
anyone finds out could you please let me know. Thanks all, Marty Smith

My father dabbled in photography as a hobby, those funny scenes where you put your head through a hole and the picture depicts someone fishing, or a fat lady, etc. He rented a booth at Playland Park from Pete, a short fellow, I think he smoked a cigar? My dad (now deceased) knew Pete as well. Nadine

Hello Rick and everyone,
Can the book you mention be purchased? Does it have an ISBN number? Some of us live out of state.
I always thought Playland Park was on Lincoln Way West, near the Mishawaka-South Bend border. I think a man called "Pete" was the proprietor for many years. I was born in 39, so my memories carried forward from that time to 1958, when I graduated from Central High School (also no longer in existance). Also, my sister and I used to walk to St. Stephen's RC Church (also no longer in existance) with our grandmother in our early years. And my grandmother and one aunt worked at Singer's. Grandpa worked at the Plow Works (Oliver Plant). Dad worked for REA Express. We lived near Kreamo Bakeries and the Drewry's Factory. Hi everyone!
As I was growing up in the 1970's, I remember Playland as a Minature
Golf/regular Golf and batting range. My parents would take me there every
summer. We still miss it to this very day, even though it got really run
down towards the end when they finally tore it down in the early '80's.
That book the "South Bend Tribune" put out a year or so ago had some nice
pictures in it of Playland in the old days. Check it out at the library
downtown (South Bend).

Georgia, I just did a quick search of the South Bend Library Index and found
a Harold E. Teeter who's obit appeared in the South Bend Tribune on July 8,
1987, p. B7 and a Teeter, Myrtle (Mrs. Harold) that appeared in the Tribune on
July 13, 1982, p 20. I would be happy to check those two obits and see who and
where survivors might be but I can't do it for a couple of weeks. Maybe
someone else on the list might be able to do it sooner. There are quiet a few
Teeters listed in the phone book so maybe one of them is still around.
I really hope you can find the family. It would be ashamed to lose that
history.
Linda Braden Gray
Looking for the Harold Teeter family of South Bend.
I have a box of old pictures that are of his family. I would like to see
family get them before I am forced to throw them out. A task that would really
sadden me. There are about 11 albums, a hand full of loose pics and a school year
book from Battle Creek Central "Paran 1969. One album bears the name of its
owner and an address: Harold Teeter, jr. 1235 W. Colfax Ave. South Bend,
Indiana. There are alot of family pics and military pics in this box.
If anyone out there knows of this family please contact me.

You could email the library (local.history(a)sjcpl.org) for a copy of the

located in the local phone book. There are quite a few Teeters listed.

Nadine;
I just did a quick search of Amazon.com and I didn't see it there. I think
it was in print for a limited time. Since my father retired from the "South
Bend Tribune in 1992, we received a notice in the mail in 2002 that we could
order it directly from the Tribune. The book was advertised heavily on WSBT
radio to call the Tribune to order/purchase it. My mother ordered it and
gave it to me for Christmas last year. She knows that I love history, and
the book was stuffed full of photographs of South Bend history.
