[INSTJOSE] St. Joseph Information
by Peterson, Jim and Karen
Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to let you know that there are a few books written on St. Joseph
County. My library (Milwaukee County Lib - Main branch) has a few of them and
they are quite usefull. One book, titled
"Pictorial and biographical memoirs of Elkhart and St. Joseph counties, Indiana,
together with biographies of many prominent men of northern Indiana and of the
whoe state, both living and dead" - published 1893. I found quite a story on my
family there - lots of names, dates, etc! There are few others that I plan to
check out such as "Historical background of South Bend and St. Joseph County in
northern Indiana / compiled and published by the DAR, South Bend, Indiana" and
"A History of St. Joseph County, Indiana". Most were published late 1880's -
early 1900's.
If anyone wants me to look up their ancestors in these books, email me the names
and next time I visit, I will search and make copies of pertinent information. I
plan on visiting them again next week. They also have the 1910 Indiana census
that I can take a look at also!
