I am searching for any information pertaining to the Auten family in St
Joseph Co,MI. I undestand there was a John Auten who was the first man
from St Joseph County to die in the Civil War. I am sure all the other
Autens there are related to him, There is an Auten Road there today. I
need to know who John Auten's father was,or where he came from.Who his
children and siblings were/etc. Any information greatly appreciated.
Thanks,Mame
In 1845, I had relatives attend a school in district No. 1, Buchanan
township. Some relatives lived about 2.5 miles from the border in MI,
while others lived about 1.5 miles south of the border in St. Joseph, Co.
IN. Could the school have been on the border? Does anyone have an old map
that might show the location of the school?

I am looking for information re Isaac James Ullmann who bought and sold
land in Mishawaka in the 1830s and 1840s. Some of the deeds mention the
St. Joseph Iron Works as part of the land description. Is this a place,
a company, or both ? Any information that anyone has about Isaac or the
St. Joseph Iron Works would be appreciated.

Hi Laurence
I found this on the St Joseph Public Library website:
Subject ST. JOSEPH IRON WORKS, MISHAWAKA
Description Name was changed to St. Joseph Iron Co. and then to St.
JosephManufacturing Company. The town of Mishawaka originally had this name,
taken from the company (St.Joseph Iron Works)The building was taken down and
Main Street was relocated sothat it passes over the site. It is almost at
the spot of theUniroyal fenced-in parking lot, on the south side of the river
nearthe "Race."
Date 5/9/1996
Record No. 965
I hope this helps.

Hi All,
I am having a problem, and perhaps someone can help me...I ordered a death
cert. for Peter LINDECKER, died 1899. I got the money order, copied my I.D.
and used the right form. Now the vital records folks tell me they lost the
book? Is there any other way to look for death records? (I don't know the
cemetery he was buried in- just that he lived Stockwell, Indiana.)
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Mimi

Thank you for the help. I did have this information. Unfortunately, it
doesn't have any extra information on Joseph CROWEL which is where I am
lacking. I'm telling you, I'm beginning to wonder if he existed before
marrying my GGrandmother! LOL
Thanks again,
Tammy

Hello,
I am at a loss, and I am hoping someone on the list can help me. In a
1942 obituary for my gg grandfather there is mention of a sister who was
living in South Bend at the time. It only gives her name as Marie Mathes.
I realize that this last name could be spelled a variety of ways, so I am
not sure that this is the correct spelling (Mathis). Would someone on the
list be available to help me by looking up the Mathes name in the 1942 city
directory, and if I am not pushing my luck too far, a look up in the 1920
census would be very much appreciated. This may help me learn more about a
person I never knew existed.
Thank you,
Coleen
Joe,
They are very likely related. My Aunt told me she thinks there are still
relatives in the Granger area. Do you know how to get ahold of them? I
knew the dates of my GGrandparents marriage and that they were married in
Fulton County but I can't find them anywhere after their marriage until
GGrandmothers death which was also in Fulton County. They are not however
in Fulton County in the 1910 census! How frustrating! Thanks for your
help.

Tammy,
I found this marriage record for Fulton County, IN which is two counties
south of St. Joseph county. I couldn't figure out what the two dates are.
One of them is the marriage date. The G 324 is the book and page # of the
record. This can help you when requesting the record from Fulton County.
Fulton County, Indiana Index to Marriage Records A-G Book 1 Vol 1 1850-1920
p.95
Crowl Joseph Myrtle Hisey Mar 6 1903 Mar 8 1903 G 324
Fulton County has a genealogy website here:
http://members.tripod.com/~debmurray/fulton/index.html
They have information on how to order vital records. You can also post
queries and see if someone can do any lookups for you.
I did not see them in the St. Joseph County records index which covers
1882-1920. I also checked the index to the St. Joseph County 1870, 1880 and
1910 census at this site and did not see them:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~insbags/indexto.htm
Hope this helps some.

Tammy,
Try Don Crowel 219-272-3349 or Tamara Crowel 219-222-3431 I went to school
with Gail. I believe that Don is the father, which would make him 60-70 years
old. Good Luck!

Tammy,
there is still a Crowel family in Granger. I went to school with a daughter.
We graduated together in 1972 from the local high school. They are farmers,
and have been in Granger as far back as i can remember, ( I'm not that old
but I do rememebr the 60's). Is it possible that this could be part of your

Hello list
If this is duplicated post, I apoligize.
I am trying to locate a person named Kathy. She posted a message on the
Pennsylvania Genealogy Forum Message board on 10-10-99. Her e-mail address
that is listed, is apparently not a good one. htkollen(a)midwest.net Kathy
has a great deal of info on John Bugh and Elizabeth Moser. These people are
my GGG-Grandparents.
If any one knows this Kathy and has an e-mail address for her, I would
greatly appreciate hearing from you.
A transcript of her message is as follows:
"I am looking for the parents of John Bugh/ Buch/Buck born around 22 October
1785 near the Schuylkill River in Breks Co. His ancestors arrived in
Pennsylvania around 1707 and settled in the area where He was born around
1730 (not yet Berks Co. in 1730). The family name in German is Von Buch and
was later changed to Bugh. He married Elizabeth Moser and they were in Union
Co. Pa. by 1816. Both He and Elizabeth died in Lycoming Co. Pa. in 1868 &
1867."
Thanks to everyone, in advance,
Jim slimsjim(a)hotmail.com
In case you haven't seen this yet, here is a new website. They are also
looking for volunteers.

RE-SENT. I sent it to the wrong person!
Pierre
Hi, Mimi.
Have you ever checked to see if your ancestors were Hessians?
A lot of Germans came over to fight with the British during the
Revolutionary war. This would be in the 1770's or 1780's.
If you haven't followed this lead, let me know.I'll send you two links, one
for a mailing list and the other for archives that you can search for
mention of the surname.
You also have another problem which you might need to work through. You have
one spelling, but there may be several other spellings and permutations
because very many of the people who came from Europe (and elsewhere) were
totally illiterate. The names were always phonetic, and subject to how they
were understood through a thick accent.
Happy hunting!

Information
We are the former Rootsweb Mailing Lists of INSTJOSE, INELKHAR, INFULTON, INKOSCIU, INLAGRAN, INLAPORT, INMARSHA, INNOBLE, INPORTER, MIBERRIE, MICASS, and MIVANBUR. Due to a long history of little to no traffic it made sense to merge all groups into one regional list. A discussion and research group covering the history and genealogy of the counties that make up the Michiana area. Counties in Indiana; St. Joseph, LaPorte, Elkhart, and Starke. In Michigan; Cass and Berrien. Also counties of Greater Michiana. In Indiana; Fulton, Marshall, Porter, LaGrange, Noble, Kosciusko . In Michigan; Van Buren. Anyone interested in Michiana is welcome to join!
