Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Angie, as soon as the weather clears, I am going to the local LDS center.
I am also at a block. Once you get a good lead, you are on your way.
Although I have six and seven generations in the US (and not all of them
care), I have no idea where to look overseas. Sometimes you can find a
good "look-up" - people who charge a nominal fee to look up information
for you. Follow your heart, if that is what you want to do, and if you
want to leave a legacy, do not allow yourself to get overly discouraged
in your searching efforts, nor by family members. Believe in yourself.
And if a message is not answered, that is the least of all
discouragements. The true information lies in verifiable names and
dates, and that is found in court records. Hang in there!

Dear Angie -
I wish one of your surnames in your search had been one of mine! Yes, our
passion for finding our ancestors, and history, usually isn't shared by
family members...at least, that has been my experience. My family at 1st
enjoyed hearing some of what I found, but after a while they got bored.
Overall, no one is interested in helping out with any of their time,
although, one has provided some funding. I have learned to enjoy this just
for myself, and the also that maybe my gr-grandchildren will be grateful for
my efforts. Over the past two years of research, I have met on-line many
wonderful people who have been so willing and generous with their help. I
also try to help others now too. You are not responsible for providing a
copy of all your discoveries to your entire family. What I have done, is
provide one to a branch, who is turn may make copies to those interested.
Happy hunting! This is a very rewarding hobby!
Marie
I may be able to help! What marriage are you looking for?

Hi Group,
Today is a downer I have been blocked at every turn. Does that ever get better? I'm a newbie at Genealogy. Although, I have been trying to document some of our family members for awhile. I have just within the last six months started doing it intensively. I have found that I get a lead then send out my message to a person and never receive any acknowledgement. This could be a long lost relative other times a surname site of a member who mentioned one of my surnames. I write to cemetery personnel no response! Newspapers, Social Security all of these take forever if ever to respond. Is this normal?
I have also been rather disappointed that others in my extended family seem to be mildly interested but could really care less. Although they all want a copy of what I have when I'm finished! I love doing this and see so much value in the quest for myself and my families future generations. I know this is probably way off of our specific subject but I can't be the only one that sometimes feels very lonely in her great quest. How do you handle the lousy downer times? Do I just have to have more patience?

I need info on the the marriage of Bessie Trombley and Samuel M. Mc Donald.
Dated July 3, 1911 There is another Bessie Trombley marriage to Alfred C.
Hathaway. Dated April 11 1908. The info I need is Bessie's parent's names, I
have to confirm their names, and Alfred Hathaway. Was Hathaway her first
husband? Mc Donald her second. We only know of Mc Donald.
Source info I have is as follows:
Applications, 1882-1920 Vol. 111 Letters S-Z Page 104
Index to marriage records 1860-1920 Vol. V Letters T-Z Page 33
Please check all records. There is a date listed, Feb. 1 1888, which I do
not understand. let me know what it is. Check her parent's names for both
marriages. A copy of marriage licence for each, if Bessie is the same in
both marriages, would be greatly appreciated. Let me know of any cost for
this.
Thank you so much,

Billie,
The first URL I gave:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~instjose/stjoe.htm
works great - I clicked on it in my former message to be sure.
For the Genweb one....try this:
http://www.usgenweb.org
Then, click on the link to take you to the States.
I don't know what was wrong with the link I used previously,
but it keeps going to a Rootsweb page!! I used to use that
all the time - oh well, that is the only thing for certain
in life - things will change!! *grin*
Good luck.
Karol
Shirley, do you have a birth date for your Melvin culp? Genealogy.com
library on family tree maker has many records listed for St. Joseph county
and surrounding areas. There are allot of "Culps" listed. Marriage and
birth records.
Anne
Karol, Got the "this page cannot be displayed when I tried both of the
URLs. Is it just a busy time? Thanks anyway. Billie Rood

I am trying to find out where my grandfather got married. He spoke of
St.
Joe when I was growing up. His name was Melvin Albert Culp. He married
Elenore(Nellie) Hylaszek or Mackovitch on July 16, 1922. Does anyone
have
access to these files? Thank you so much.
Shirley
marriage records for St.. Joseph county.
I have had wonderful assistance from the people at the St. Joseph County
Archives.
Send an e-mail with the information you have and they will let you know if
they have the marriage applications. They also have copies of the wills
listed on the St. Joseph Genealogy site. They charge 5 cents per page for
copies plus postage.

Please forgive me if I'm stating the obvious, but have you written to
St. Joseph County clerk for a copy of the marriage license? The address
is
County Clerk of St. Joseph
Courthouse - Basement
South Bend, IN 46601-1870
phone 219-235-9635
(This info was correct two years ago, hopefully it still is.)
You may also have luck checking the obituary for your grandfather and/or
grandmother. My search turned up a Melvin Culp who died 11/14/49 ... if
this is your grandfather you can get a copy of his obituary from the St.
Joseph Library -- further information at
http://sjcpl.lib.in.us/homepage/LocalHist/Necrology.html
Hope this helps.

Hello. I am seeking information on these people. Here is what I know.
Margaret Rhodes was born in 1822 in OH. Her sister Ann/Anna was born in 1820
in PA. Ann/Anna married Jacob Bender in 1840 in OH. Some time before 1852,
Ann/Anna Rhodes Bender and Jacob Bender moved to South Bend where he worked
as a tailor. Margaret Rhodes helped the Benders in their shop and she lived
with them. Edwin Crocker met her in the shop; I believe he lived in South
Bend. After his wife died, he married Margaret in 1852 in NY.
Any information would be appreciated. Thanks so much!
Stephanie in Denver
