Dear Lister's,
Let me introduce myself. I am Thomas Lester Wilson, I have been
working
in
the Kosciusko County List on my Elder ancsetors. My grandfather
was
Lester Elder, b. September 7, 1882, supposedly in Claypool. He was
Francis
Marion and Elizabeth (Lightcap) Elder's oldest son.
Today, I received a copy of the "Centennial Celebration of Claypool"
from the Kosciusko County Historical Society. This was an $8.00 well
spent. I opened the book to Page 28, which is devoted to the Elder
Family,
written by Grace Elder Beigh Reeg (Lennis Elder's daughter).
Part of this
page bares repeating: "William Elder was born February 4, 1826, in Seneca
County, Ohio. When he was 16 years oldhe helped decide the family should
come to Koskiusko County, Indiana, and by land. T.J. Elder, his wife,
four
boys and four girls all came, since William was the one they depended
on
to
make family decisions.
October 26, 1842 Thomas Jefferson Elder purchased land of William and
Susan Rouch. It is currently owned by Hubert Neeley, Sr. and Harold
Bloom.
All of T.J. Elder's children went to different places for
their homes,
except William. He stayed on the farm until he died in 1904. His sister
Leah, married Nelson Beigh and their children were Charles Beigh and
Cynthia Beigh Getty. Jane Elder married George Yotter and was the mother
of
Mark Yotter and Allie Yotter Scoles. His sister Amanda , married a
Rhoades
and was the grandmother of Carl Cluen and Chloe Landaw of Goshen.
Lafayette went to Nebraska. His brother Samuel married and was the father
of Charles Elder. Nettie married a Mr. Dick and was the mother of Tom
Dick. William married Sarah Hoppus in 1850 and they had twelve children,
George, Samantha, Francis, Julis, Elmer, Percilla, Leolen, Lennis, Atwood,
Eli, Lydia, and Cynthia. These last two were twins. George Elder married
Elizabeth Jamison and was a farmer untilretirement. Francis Elder married
Elizabeth Lightcap and moved to Starke County. Samantha married William
Tridle, a bother to Mollie Beigh, and lived in Nebraska. Julia married
Abraham Spieglemyer and lived on a farm in Starke County. Elmer married
Barbara Hemmer and lived near Bass Lake. Percilla marreid Ruben Scoles and
they built the second house north of Mt. Pleasant Church where they lived
for many years. Atwood married Addie Kissinger and worked on the railroad
for a long time. Eli married Anne Little and worked for the Lake Shore
Railroad. They lived around Elkhart. Lydia married Elmer Stoner and the
raised their family on a farm north of Bass Lake. Their son, Harry taught
in Claypool High School and was at one time Superintendent of sculls in
Monticello. Later he became the registrant at Terra Haute College.Lennis
married Minne Hammer and lived about five years in Silver Lake."
Is any of the foregoing information familar to anyone out there?
