I found this obituary in my files and thought it might be of help to someone researching
in Starke County. I'm not related to this man and don't have any other
information on him. The Indiana State Soldiers' Home is located just outside
Lafayette in Tippecanoe County. If anyone wants further information on this man, a phone
number for the home is: 765-463-1502. The Indiana State Archives at Indianapolis has the
applications for residence in the home.

CUBAN SOLDIER DIES
Michael J. Martin, a member of Co. A, 157th Indiana regiment, enlisted to serve in the war
against Spain, died at the Soldiers' home at 9:30 o'clock last Thursday,
cosumption being the cause. He was about 26 years old and entered the home from Stark
county, April 10, 1899. His illness originated in one of the southern camps and his death
is a particularly sad one. He was buried at the home on Friday.
