Dear Guyla,
Thank you so much for the nice notes. Grandma Rhoda was born in
Indiana, but her father was born in Ohio. I knew Grandpa Hans had a
cement work, he wrote out a paper on what he had done for a living
during his adult life, which I have. I don't know when he wrote it
though, it doesn't say anything about working for the city, but maybe he
considered that as part of the cement work. Do you know of anyone who
could take a picture of the house for me? I'm not sure about the
pictures and Jane. I do remember my Mom telling me that Uncle Paul's son
had died. I can't state this for a fact, but I think that my Grandma
Beulah was executor of his will. I have a LOT of pictures to go through,
but I don't really recall any that may have been Aunt Nellie's family. I
have been to the library's website and they have a great many pictures
on line. Your brother's army picture is there, and there's also one that
is labeled "Grandma Peele". From the look of the dress it may have been
Aunt Nellie's Grandma. It does seem to me that my Mom made a comment
about Jane and the family and hard feelings, again I can't say for sure.
I found my Aunt Leila's high school graduation picture on the library's
site, so perhaps you'll find something there too. I wish I had been able
to get to know my family down there, but living in WI made that
difficult. Are there any Hansens still living around Knox? At least one
of Grandpa Hans brothers lived around there. I will tell Mom hello for
you. I'm sure she'd like that. Merry Christmas! Roxane

I went to the 1930 census and I finally have my facts straight, Hans use to own a cement
business, now, I remember it, it was located next to their house. Somewhere in later
years, it became a paint store and it was owned by the Heilman's. When Hans got out of
the cement business, he then went to work for the Town of Knox. I am sure that Rhoda use
to work at the paint store. Also, she was born in Ohio, but you probably know that.
Paul use did masonry work for many many years and I think Gerald use to do the same thing.
Leila worked in Florida at the Space Station. I only seen her when she was in Knox
visiting. She was really nice.
