Greetings all...
I am planning a drive from where I live in so-west Michigan to Starke County
to research info on my gr-grandfather, Jens Jacobsen (also spelled
Jakobsen/Jacobson).
According to his obituary, from a Chicago newspaper, he was a resident of
Bass Lake for 18 years preceeding his death in 1939. I also know that he
remarried, sometime after 1920 but before 1939, to a woman whose first name
was Olive. He is enumerated in the federal census of 1920 living in Chicago
with 3 of his sons and his oldest daughter. His first wife died in Chicago
in 1918.
I have his death cert. from Chicago, where he died at his daughter's home of
leukemia.
According to my father's dad's marriage application, Jens was listed as "a
farmer in Knox Indiana".
I am hoping that someone can give me an address of the Starke Co.
Courthouse. I have located the library and Bass Lake on Hwy 35 so I am
thinking that the courthouse is probably near the library on Culver Street.
I am hoping to find a marraige license, property tax records, voter
registration, a will or probate record, or any other possible info that can
help me learn more about my father's grandpa and his 2nd wife. He married
her after he was in his late 50's so I doubt they had any children
together.... (her age is listed close to his on his death certificate).
If anyone has any info (or hints on other types of documentation to look
for) I would very much appreciate any advice! <Too bad the 1930 census isn't
ready YET!!!!>
Thanks in advance!
Thanks and Good Luck with Your Research;
