Surname: Bentz, Hamman
-------------------------
These parents and children are a working hypothesis at 2-13-99 and are
not proven.
Per Rosemary (Mrs. Jim) Bentz family sheets Feb 1999:
Pennsylvania German Pioneers, Strassburgna Hinkle, Vol II, Pg. 162: List
of German passengers, who arrived at the Port of Philadelphia on the schooner
Antelope, James Church, Commander, from St. Thomas March 4th 1805, Pg 168:
John G. Bentz 47 Place of Nativity-WURTEMBURG (Germany)
Elizabeth 49 Occupation--Shoemaker
Catharine 18 Description of Person--Dark
Jacob 13
John 7
For research purposes, using birth years estimated from the ages listed
above except when better dates found. Ages for Jacob and John above differ
from Bentzes located in Ohio, so they may be older sons of the couple or
shortened versions of known Bentzes but with wrong ages. Listed as assumed
siblings until proven differently.
Rosemary (Mrs. Jim) Bentz email 1-28-99 (jbentz(a)erinet.com):
Working hypothesis based on the above and proximity in time & place is--
John George "George" Bentz, b. c1750 Germany & wife Mary Elizabeth (Unknown
maiden name) Bentz appear to have had the following children based upon
various Ohio county history books:
George Bentz
Frederick Bentz (father of John who m. Susannah
Shoemaker & most of the Whitley-Huntington Co, IN
Bentzes)
Jacob Frederick Bentz (Rosemary & Jim's line)
Adam Bentz
Daniel Bentz
/
...possibly others due to the wide spread in their birth years
Mary Elizabeth Bentz is sometimes referred to as Mary and sometimes as
Elizabeth and these are assumed to be the same person, although this is
not proven.
1820 census for Stark Co, OH has living close together a Jacob Bentz (single,
foreign born) and also Frederick Bentz (single, foreign born). Also a Phillip
Hammon (Jacob Frederick Bentz married an Elizabeth Hammon). Each was living
alone. Rosemary believes Jacob & Frederick are brothers, because they also
married about the same time & named their children similar names. [Need
to check naturalization & immigrations records, both in US & in Germany]
