Julie, et al,
I hope that the change of topic is noted, as I do not want to interfere
with the Murphy discussion, but I have questions regarding the Dearborn Co.,
IN - Spencer Co., IN connection, i.e., was something happening,
migration-wise, between Dearborn and Spencer, ca. 1860-1880?
My interest in the Dearborn Co., IN - Spencer Co., IN connection involves
my g-grandfather, Richard Worth HEDRICKS - b. March 31, 1859 [?location], d.
Nov. 12, 1939 [Spencer Co., IN]. I am trying to determine his birthplace.
Richard's obituary, published in the Rockport, Spencer Co., IN Journal, 17
Nov., 1939, states that he was born in Harrison Co., Kentucky. This is
probably incorrect. In all of the primary sources where Richard is the
source, he gives his birthplace as Indiana. His daughter (my grandmother, Ticha
HEDRICKS) states on her marriage license that her father's birthplace was
Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Lawrenceburg is in Dearborn Co., IN. On his 2nd
marriage license [1913, Sp-Co, IN], he gives his father's name as James
Hedricks, b. Ind, deceased. and his mother's name as Jane Sadler, b. KY, deceased.
I have searched records in Cynthiana, Harrison Co., KY and Lawrenceburg,
Dearborn Co., IN and have found no record of his birth
I have been looking for the first twenty years of Richard's life for over
25 years. I have him from his marriage in 1879, Trimble Co., KY to Lucy
MAHONEY until his death in 1939 in Spencer Co., IN. I cannot locate him in
the 1860 or 1870 Census.
Further [Julie], while I do not know of a direct connection to your
CONNER line, Richard and Lucy (Mahoney) HEDRICKS's daughter, Lottie, married
Edward REAL. His parents were Martin John & Elizabeth Jane (Conner) REAL.
Martin, b. Jun 1854, IN. Elizabeth "Jane" b. Jun 1856, IN. I do not have
parent information for them.
This all may be just a matter of coincidence, but it never hurts to check.

Thanks - I'm actually interested in 2 Murphys in the area.
but first - for Lazarus - In the 1860 census I believe he is listed as
Lazarus T. Murphy
1860 US Census - Hammond, Spencer co, Indiana
MURPHY, Lazarus T., 38, farmer, Ind
- Mary, 30, Ind
- James, 16, Ind, farmer,
- John W, 12, Ind
- Franklin, 8, Ind
- Ann, 5, Ind
- Eliza, 3, ind,
[5 households above is Robert ae 19 & Matilda ae 25 CONNER]
[before that is Arthur ae 43 & Sariah ae. 39]
Okay - now to explain the Murphys. I am a Lehew/lahue researcher.
I've got a John MURFEY m. Susanah LEHUE d/o F. Lehew in Campbell Co, KY in
1797, May 02, bondsman John TAYLOR. She would have been born in Virginia
- their family in the Shenandoah Valley - either Shenandoah or Frederick,
depending on where the county lines were at the time, lol. I have no clue
on him.
And the CONNERs and TAYLORs have also married into and out of the Lehew's.
so when I saw in the 1850 census Taylor Murphy a neighbor of a Lehue
CONNER in Huff, Spencer, I had to wonder, lol.
Someone had also contacted me a year or two ago about a Peter Liam Murphy
born about 1806 in Ohio who named one of his sons Lehue. I checked and
I've got Peter marrying Drucilla D. Wolf in Dearborn, Ind in 1833 which is
near Ohio and on the 1850 census in Spencer Co, Ind. - unfortunately there is
a Peter Murphy on the 1840 census in Dearborn as well as in Spencer. Peter
also named one of his sons Taylor, born about 1841, Lehue Murphy b. 1843
and I've got a Francis Lehew born about 1740 in VA m. Leannah Taylor born
about 1740 in VA.... So!.....
I'm wondering if your Taylor Murphy (1820-1898) and/or Peter (1806 to
1854-1859) Murphy might be brothers? and if there is any info out there that
their parents might be John Murphy and Susanah Lehew.
thank you for your time
take care
Julie

Are you related to the Murphy family
listed here? Just curious how.
I don't know where you got the name Lazarus Taylor Murphy
but don't recall ever seeing that first name but been years
since I have looked at any of the Murphy info in that and
surrounding counties. I know that when Frank (Taylor's
son) married at age 32 on Apr 16, 1884 he stated his
father's first name was Taylor; his mother was Mary Grabb.
I'll see what I can find - is there a surname that maybe
married into them that you are wondering about too?
Although I am a Murphy, I have no known relatives of my
husband's in Indiana as they all stopped in WVA and Ohio,
but I did research (and sometimes still do) and had websites
of data for several counties in Indiana (Spencer was one of
them) and can glance and see what I might have on them.
My best,
Judy Sandage Murphy
aka Judy M.

Hi - Is anyone working on this line?
Or know where I might find more information?
I tried the genweb site and struck out. I've tried
familyorg, footnote/fold3, findagrave & ancestry - I
haven't heard back from the one person who had him on a
tree.
thanks for the thoughts
