I'm the Lake County, IN county Genealogist. Is there anything I
can help you
with here in Lake County, IN Also have you check the Northwest Indiana
Genealogist society website out. At
www.roostweb.com/~innwigs they are always
adding new things The death Certificate will be hard to get from Hammond. They
wont give any of them out unless he has been dead for 100 years. You might want
to try the state board of health for it. Do you know where he work when he was
here in Lake County?

Lake County, IN Genealogist
Hi Marlene,
Thank you for your offer. A lot of my family lived in the Hammond area so there is always
something I need. Please let me get back to you.
I am surprised to hear that it is so hard to get a Death Certificate from Hammond.
Normally it's easier to get the records from the county than from the state. I
didn't realize IN really had any restrictions. There have been several counties in IN
that I have just walked in and gotten the records with very minimal questioning. Am glad
you said something about it because I was planning on sending to Hammond for the record
this week.
James Garrett was in Rockport in 1920 (census) and died at home, Cherry St., Hammond in
1926. According to his obit in THE HAMMOND TIMES, he had been suffering from asthma for
the last 4 years. It said he had been employed at the plant of the Locomotive Superheater
Co. in East Chicago. I am pretty sure he was living with his dau, Iva Pause, at the time
of his death. Undertaker was Neidow.
Thank You,
Pam Belden
