Hi all,
I think you've all used the search engine on the Spencer County web site and
found out what a great tool it is. Makes it so much easier for you to find
names you're looking for! What you probably don't know is that freefind, the
search engine, gives me a weekly report on what names have been searched. I
don't know who made the search, only what names they are searching.
Sometimes I see names that are familiar to me, and sometimes I might have some info
I can give to the person, but can't because I don't know who it is. So I'm
trying to figure out something here. I'm looking into putting a query page on
the web site-- it means I have to do some special html stuff--and first I
have to learn how to do that!
In the meantime--I saw someone was looking for Connor cemetery. I have some
info on cemeteries but I don't have that one. But I did see that Connor is
also known as Mt. Zion Christian Church. I think, but am not sure, that the
same person is looking for Julius and Sallie Waters. In the Ebenezer
Cemetery, where some of my ancestors are buried, I found a Sallie M. Waters, wife of
J. S. b. Oct 4, 1838. Unfortunately, the death date was illegible. Next to
her was Eva J., her daughter, b. July 27, 1861, d. Aug. 26, 1864. J. S.
isn't there. According to my index of cemeteries, there are two more listings
of Waters in books I don't have. He may have remarried and was buried in a
different cemetery, with his next wife.
If you have brick walls, I encourage you to post them on this list. If I
can help, I will, and so will others. Kris Manley at the Rockport Library, is
very helpful and you could ask her for a cemetery lookup. Soon I'll put a
brick wall page up on the web site.
Happy hunting,
Peggy
