I just wanted to remind everyone that not only do we have a couple
biographies online and the Indiana Biographies Project has them too. You
can get to the Indiana Biographies project via the Spencer Co main
Biography page.
http://www.usroots.com/~jmurphy/spencer/spencer.htm
The main Indiana Biography page is at:
http://members.tripod.com/~debmurray/indybios/county1.htm
These biographies are from out of copyright books such as the history books
for the counties. Wonderful reading and sources. All surnames are indexed
(if memory serves correctly).
Also want to remind everyone that I am always in need of addresses and info
for the various organizations and things in Spencer County -- the ones I
have found so far are on the Miscellaneous page (get to this off the main
Spencer Co page
http://www.usroots.com/~jmurphy/spencer/spencer.htm )
Some things that are needed are DAR, GAR, IOOF, American Legion, VFW,
VietNam Veterans, etc. If the organization has any specific phone number
or meeting date I would like to know this too as well as yearly reunion
dates and places. Many of these organizations are very helpful in finding
info about our ancestors.
If you belong to any of these county organizations, ask them if they would
like to put together info which could be helpful to the genealogical
researchers which we could put online (please honor those who are alive
when it comes to birthdates, though) -- for instance the American Legion
used to have on their application forms the names of parents, the birthdate
and place of person, the names of spouse and children, the dates of
service, awards and medals, service branch they were in, wars they served
in, Regiments, etc. For those deceased members this info would be very
valuable to their descendants searching their lineage. For myself this
info would be a wonderful addition to the military page if it doesn't have
a page of its own (I have almost no wwII, Korean War, Vietnam, etc. names).
(anyone alive should okay the info on themselves being put online).
If any of you can think of other things that would be welcome and is not
copyrighted -- please send me ideas. If anyone has time to volunteer, we
are in need of persons to type up cemetery readings (these have to be your
own or okay'd by the person who did the reading -- cannot use any new books
or others' readings unless out of copyright or person holding copyright
allows us to use these on the webpages).
My best,
Judy M.
