Hello,
I saw your e-mail postings concerning the Parr family and I noticed there
was a mention of a John Musgrave who was a member of the 42nd Indiana during
the Civil War. I am currently collecting information on all the men who
were members of the 42nd Indiana. I find John Musgrave listed on only one
of my roster lists, so am very interested to find out more about him. I am
especially interested in finding out what might be in his pension records.
I show him as being in company B with a rank of private. That is all the
information I have on him. Company B was one of four companies of the 42nd
Indiana that were recruited from Spencer County. The others being companies
C, D, and H.
Thanks for any information you might be able to send me on John Musgrave.

Subject: Re: Paul F. Parr - Correction
I've really appreciated the Parr family info on this list the
last few
days.
Thanks!
However, I do have a correction to make. My gggrandmother, Narcissa Jane
Winkler, was the 2nd wife of Paul F. Parr. She and her first husband, John
Musgrave, were the parents of my ggrandmother, Ada L. Musgrave, b. 25 July
1861. I think you're right that John Musgrave died in the Civil War. There
is a John Musgrave from Spencer Co. 42nd Infantry Regiment who perished
during the war. His widow and heir filed for a pension--I have applied for
the pension packet, but haven't received it from the National Archives
yet.
"Addie", age 8, who appears in the household of Paul Parr (and wife, Jane)
in the 1870 census is most likely Ada Musgrave, not a child of Paul and
his
first wife. If you have evidence of them (Paul and Mary) having a
child
named Addie or Adeline, I'd appreciate having it. Ada's name in the 1880
census is recorded as "Aidy"; in the 1900 census as "Adie", lending
credence
to the argument that "Addie" in the 1870 census is indeed
Ada Musgrave.
Ada L. Musgrave
b. 25 July 1861, Spencer Co. (In IGI the year is 1860. However, her
parents
were married 15 Aug 1860. I realize marriage is not necessarily a
prerequisite for parenthood, but in the 1900 census her birth date is
listed
as July 1861. 1900 U.S. Census, Luce Twp, Spencer Co, Indiana; E.D.
#68;
sheet 1 B; 2 Jun 1900; Dwelling #16; Family #16; accessed on

Oct 2002.)
md. William R. Hackleman, 11 Feb 1880, Spencer Co. (Spencer Co. Indiana
Marriage Records; vol 8, p 54)
d. 22 May 1934 (My uncle says she died in Richland, Spencer Co. However,
she
may have died in California. I haven't pinned it down yet.)
Andrew J. Parr was the court-appointed guardian of Ada Musgrave. I'm not
sure exactly when this occurred as I'm waiting for a microfilm of the
correct probate order book. Here's what I know: A "Report of Guardian"
dated
29 Jul 1873 refers to the "last report Nov. 24th 1869" (FHL
film 1321821,
item 1, Spencer Co., IN Probate Order Book, vol 6, p 14). On 1 Nov 1877,
Andrew J. Parr resigned as guardian and Ada's mother, Narcissa J. Parr,
was
appointed as her guardian. (FHL film 1321821, item 2, Spencer Co.,
IN
Probate Order Book, vol 7, p 303).
Andrew J. was also the executor of Paul's estate. The 24 Jul 1876 list of
heirs that appears in the probate records does not include "Addie" or
"Adeline". (FHL film 1321821, item 2, Spencer Co., IN Probate Order Book,
vol 7, p 7).
