You know I have done research for over thirty years and concentrated on over
three dozen family names, BUT none of them have the variety of spelling that
the Steerman family has.
Are you ready:
Sterman, Sternam, Steerman, Stearman, Strueman, Stirman, Sturman, Stirsman,
Steirman. The most common is Sturman. I think this has to do with the way
clerks made their Es. Down through the generations, as descendents could read and
write they began to define the way there name was spelled.
Peggy, what was the first name of the Stirman and when did they die?

Candee,
I was looking in my few cemetery books for Spencer Co. Unfortunately, I
don't have the one I need. I have an index to all the cemeteries but not
all the
books. I found, in the index, there is a Stirman in Vol. 7 of the books
published by Ye Olde Genealogy Shoppe, in 1975. Looking further I saw that
this
Volume covers Oak Hill Cemetery in Grass Twp., among others. I don't know
if
this alternate spelling will help. Maybe someone on the list has the
cemetery
books put out by Spencer Co. Historical Society. I also see that Little
Pigeon
Baptist Church is in Clay Twp. and so is Old Pigeon Creek Baptist Church.
