Hi Dick,
I have assumed that the Daniel and Oliver that you mentioned in your posting
were my Daniel Clinton Brown, and his older brother, Oliver R. Brown.
HOWEVER, there is an Oliver, Edward (also a brother) and Daniel Brown who
were listed with Frances Nix in the 1850 census of Warrick Indiana (next
county over). They are the same ages as my Oliver, Edward and Daniel and I
thought they were a double entry of my guys.....even though they were also
in Porter County, Indiana 1850 census for the death of their father, Joseph
Brown. (Censuses taken different days?)
Maybe this family is yours? OR maybe you belong to our Browns from
LaRue/Hardin/Nelson County, KY. I do not have all the children of all the
brothers and sisters of either James Brown, Jr and his wife, Mary
Matchett, or Joseph and Susanna Carter. And there are 4 unaccounted for
children of Joseph and Susannah Carter.
I have never found a marriage record for Oliver and I assume he never
married. His obituaries did not mention a wife or children.
I just checked Margaret Grass marriage to Daniel Brown at
www.familysearch.org. They have a submission of a marriage of Margaret
Grass to Samuel Brown on
07 JUN 1830 , Spencer, Indiana
This was submitted by a member of the Church - and I have no clue where
he/she got the name Samuel, if you say Daniel... There is no extracted
record for the marriage (Church also extracts records from local Churches,
etc.) which I would trust more than (most) submitted records.
I also checked Ancestry One World Tree - the family is mentioned there but
no more information that you have shared.
My Daniel Clinton Brown, b. 1824, married Elizabeth Haskins in 1854 in
Porter County, Indiana. He would not have been old enough to marry this
Margaret Grass.... but perhaps your Daniel is a cousin of ours?
Here are my notes on Oliver:
*BIRTH: Aged 81 at time of his death = b. 1812. 1850 Census of Warrick
County, IN census, Oliver is listed as 39. *
*He is mentioned in a Porter Circuit Court complaint filed July 30, 1851.
The children wanted to be sure their father's property was divided justly.*
*Shortly after the court's decree an Oliver R. Brown sold some of the land
to Wilson Malone (father of Catherine, who married Alfred Brown). I believe
this to be our Oliver Brown. This transaction places our Oliver Brown in
Porter County, IN in September 1851.*
*Also there was an Oliver Brown, b. 1811 with Daniel Brown, b. 1824 and
Edward Brown, b. 1826 in the household of Frances Nix and her two children
in Warrick County, IN at the time of the 1850 census. I assume these men are
brothers and are brothers to Frances or boarders? (Need marriage of Frances
Brown to a Nix.) I see no problem with the fact that Daniel and Edward were
also listed in the 1850 census of Porter Co., IN. They were probably there
because of the imminent death of their father.*

*Kathie:
I have done a little checking since your query was forwarded to the Rockport
Library from INSPENCE.
I have not found a connection between Francis Nix and the Brown's but it
would appear that she may have been a Brown, too.
Nothing here except there is a death record for a female Frances Nix, 97
years old (not 87) dated 5 Feb 1900 in Buffaloville. There was no tombstone
or obituary to go with this death. You would have to contact the Health
Dept. at the Spencer Co. Courthouse for a copy to see if this is even the
correct person. It is in Book R-2 page 7.
According to the obituary for Isaac K. Drullinger in April 1893, his wife
Mary Ann Brown died just a few weeks before him. Neither had a death
certificate. Her death notice only said she died of cancer. His stated he
married her in 1847 (Porter Co.) They are both buried in the Sunset Hill
Cemetery in Rockport. Their dates as on their tombstones: Mary Ann
Drullinger 9 May 1826 to 7 March 1893. Isaac K. Drullinger 31 May 1824 to 1
April 1893. His obit states he was born near Cincinnati and they had one son
and two daughters (not named).*
*A short item in the paper stated that "Uncle Oliver Brown, who went from
here to Valparaiso, this State, about 4 weeks ago, died last Saturday at the
home of his brother in that place, aged 71 years. Uncle Oliver came here
from Kentucky and lived here for 65 years." This was in the 12 May 1893
Rockport Democrat.
Hope this is of some help. If I can be of further help, please email me.

*Hello,
I have a Mary Ann Drullinger w/o Isaac K., she was b. 5/9/1826, d. 3/7/1892,
buried Sunset Hill Cem., Rockport, Spencer Co.
As for the Nix and Brown families, there are a large group of them in Grass
Twp in the Midway area. But can't find any of the names you gave in the
cemetery records.
Have an Oliver R. Brown as county coroner in 1858, Joseph Brown as 1830's as
a business man, Daniel Brown as running a hotel.
