This fee increase ($37 to $125) is news to me -- everytime I have requested civil war
records, social security records, and any military paper even it is BY THE PAGE -- not a
flat fee. When did this start? It has been a couple years since I ordered anything but
have NEVER had specific fee -- and they also gave you a choice as to what the type of info
you wanted (just vital things like marriage and enlistment records, etc. or EVERYTHING)
and they always gave a MAXIMUM amount you could enter and they wouldn't go over that
amount (if lots and lots of pages to copy) and if it would, they always contacted the
person by writing or phone to ask if the person wanted more.
Has anyone gotten any records past year from the NARA? How much and how did they charge?
Thanks,
Judy M.

The 7 March 2007 issue of the Review discusses the US National
Archives and Records Administration (NARA) proposal to increase its
fees for photocopying records; notably, it mentions their proposal to
increase fees for copies of Civil War pension files from $37 to $125.
