Hi there,
Elizabeth Mitchell Lahew lived with my ancestor, Joseph Brown, after he and
his wife, Susannah Carter Brown, were divorced in 1838 in Spencer County,
Indiana. He willed 100 acres of land to Elizabeth when he died in 1850 in
Porter County, Indiana and asked that Elizabeth's daughter, Minerva Lahew
Branning/Branen, be counted as a child and his estate be divided into 9
parts, including Minerva. He left nothing to Susannah. Elizabeth, Minerva,
Minerva's husband and children and other Brown children were all in the
household of Joseph Brown in the 1850 census. I believe they knew he was
dying and were there with him.
It took me a few years to figure out the divorce thing - and it is still not
all resolved. Joseph and Susannah had problems as early as 1818 in Hardin
County, KY - but I have not gotten the court records of that yet.
I would be interested in finding out what happened to Minerva and her
husband, Janus Branning or perhaps James Branen. I seem to remember a
newspaper article about some of the Porter Co, men going to CA and he was
one of them...

Francis Lehew was in Spencer and Perry Co abt 1818-1820, Frances is the
father of Peter Lehew b. 1775. Peter married Elizabeth Mitchell in
Spencer Co in
1818. Peter is on the 1820 Census and Elizabeth is on the 1830 Census
without Peter. Peter and Elizabeth had one daughter named Minerva born
abt 1819.
After Peter died abt 1837 Benjamin Romaine was supposedly given guardian
ship of Minerva. Minerva probably inherited money from Peters estae
because
later land was purchased in her name.Elizabeth is in Porter IN in 1850
and
Minerva is with her.
Peter Lehew had a new log home in 1827, 2/10 mile south of Granville,
Spencer Co., IN. on HW 66, by Thomas Lincoln, Abraham Lincoln's father.
In 1936 it
had been covered with siding and was owned by Otto Scherer, but known as
the
"Old Lynn House" according to a story by the Evansville Courier in 1936.
It is believed that Frances or Peter Lehew may be the father of John
Russel
Conners wife Rebecca Lehew and we are trying to find something to prove
this.
Any help will be appreciated.
